Lisa. Murray On October 30 the girls from five teams competed in a soccer tournament hosted by Lucknow. The teams were: Huron Heights, Elgin Market, W.E. Thompson, Ripley and Lucknow. Ripley won the first three games and lost the fourth (the championship game) on kicks to the goalie. On October 31 we had the championship game. (Ripley against Huron Heights). Rip- ley lost. REMEMBRANCE On November 1 the classes' went into the gym for a Remembrance Day Service. We saw a film called "Fields of Sacrifice", sang 0 Can- ada, listened to the Last Post and observed two minutes silencer SOCK HOP. On Wednesday, October 31 the grade sevens and eights had a sock hop. There was a contest for the best dressed girl .and boy. The winners were Lisa Murray from Mrs. Henderson's grade 7 and Darin Hickey from Mr. Armstrong's grade 8. The best dressed teacher was Mrs. Henderson. SECONDARY NEWS By Nancy MacDonald and Michele MacTavish Mid-term exams start this week. They will be held November 8, 9 and 12. Students are busy studying. There will be no ,R.D.S. news next week because of exams. "OTHELLO" On November 1 the Dram- • atic . Arts 234 class and num- erous other students attend- ed a performance of Shakes- peare's "Othello". The play was three and a half hours long and thoroughly enjoyed by all. VOLLYEBALL The junior ,boys attended C.W.O.S.S.A. on Saturday. They won their first two games against Wiarton, but failed to win any more all day. The B.I.A.. champion- ship team consisted of Larry Needham, Harold Peet, Jeff Stanley, Frank McLennan, Kevin Boyle, Larry Colling, Terry Irwin, Eric Vander Glas and Danny. Lamb. Con- gratulationsboys for making it to C.W.O.S.S.A. The volleyball, teams. would like to thank Mr. Coultes and Mr. Brown for coaching their teams this season. Also thanks to Ms. Garvey and Mr. Everingham for assisting with the teams. SOUTHERN VISITORS Last Thursday, two girls from . South America visited the Grade b and Grade 12 classes. Denise Mormul from Brazil, talked to the Grade 8 Geography class. Sophie LOOKING FOR A GIFT THAT WILL : LAST A'« YEAR ROUND? Dombar of Belgium visited the Grade 12 French class. The two girls are exchange students,. taking.. classes at Walkerton District Second- ary School. They arrived in Walkerton last August, and will be, there 'for a year. Sophie. Dombar comes from the French speaking city of Liege. She showed the Grade 12s some slides. So- pie talked of the problems in her country, some of which are lack of space and unem- ployment She answered any questions which the students had. The Grade 12 , class ended their visit with Sophie and Denise by preparing . a delicious •lunch. Everyone enjoyed having the girls visit R.D.S. HALLOWE'EN SPIRIT R.D.S. was quite a sight last Wednesday! Mysterious looking creatures roamed the halls. Many of the students and a few teachers dressed up for Hallowe'en Spirit Day. There were prizes for the best dressed girl and boy. The winners were -Joanne Pollock, dressed as a bunny rabbit, and Tom Wilson, dressed as a dining room table. The prizes were din- ners for .two at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
