of their parents were in school when Miss'
Thompson began her public health career 23
years ago, He thanked Miss Thompson for
the contribution she has made to Lucknow
school children during the years she worked
in public health.
As well as. Huron and Kinloss Townships
she also served part of, Kincardine Township
and St. Anthony's Soh ool in Kincardine in
the later years of her career.
In addition to school,innoculations and eye
cheekups which remand many of us of. the
achool nurse, Miss Thompson ,. p proyid'ed
mental health and prenatal and postnatal
care,
Raised in Toronto where she nursed at
Wellesley Hospital as a registerednurse,
she decided to go into public health after the.
idea ways introduced to her by a supervisor
on the staff at Wellesley. She graduated
from a One year public health Program and
was sent to Bruce -County.

A fire on the main street of Lucknow .
Friday night sent two people to hospital and
deft seven people homeless. -
Hank den Boer is in good condition in
Wingham and District Hospital, suffering
from first and second degree burns to his
hands, feet, arms, legs and chest. Ruby
Webb -was treated in Wingham hospitalfor
second degree burns to her right arm. She
.was released from hospital Saturday.
The fire started in the living room of the
• apartment owned by Hanka; and Alice den
,'Boer abbve their bake shop, -Lucknow Home
Bakery on the south side of themain street.

Lucknow• District . firemen ' answered the
call about 11.30 p.m. and brought it under
control in about an' hour.
Seven people fled the burning building.
Hank and Alice den Boer and their two.
Children, : Josie and .Paul, were awakened by •
their collie dog, Sandy, who was tied to the
door in the living room where the fire
started. The family left the apartment by the
backstairs of the apartment through the bake
shop to the south of the building.
Mr. den Boer returned to the apartment to
get the dog out. He left through the• living
room door to the hallway adjoining the
Brown building, where he. mei, :Florence

She, left the -.building down the backstairs to
the south of the building with Mr. den Boer
and his dog
Mr. den Boer then returned : to the
apartment againbecause he thought the fire
.was only Located in a living room chair. He
grabbed a cushion from the chesterfield and
tried to smother the flames in the chair but
the cushion exploded in flames. He grabbed
the cushion and carried it outinto the
hallway and. threw it down the stairs. He
followed down the stairs and kicked . it out-
into the 4treet.
Ruby Webb, who lives in the' front
apartment above Bill's Place, was awakened
when Mr. den Boer ran down the hall
• pounding on the wall, yelling ."fire'; l She
said she went to her door and found the
hallway filled with smoke. She left the
building by the north stairway which was
burning to the street.
Claude Tetreau'lt, who lives in the back
apartment over Bill's Place, was awakened
by Mr. den Boer's calls of fire. He found the
hallway filled with sinoke,'grabbed a towel
which he dowsed in water and wrapped
around his head. He then ran out of the
building down the north stairs to the street.
Mr. Tetreault met firemen coming up the
stairs as he left the building.
The den Boer apartment was destroyed
and there is smoke and water damage to the
bakery;below. The apartments in the Brown
building have. smoke 'damage and some
water damage and there is water damage to
the variety store .below.
