Lueknowan.d area obituaries ' EDWARD VICTOR BAKER A, resident of Nottawa for the past eleven years, Ed - war Victor. Baker passed away p ce ully at the Gen- eral and Ma ine Hospital, Collingwood, .July 22nd, 1979, in his 77th year, after a brief illness., Edward was born in. Sus- sex, England,, April 11, 1903 and after the untimely death of his father, came to' Canada at the age of seven, with his brother Bill, to the Dundalk area. He resided with the McVicar family, attended school and worked at varied enterprises. In October 1931, he married. Mary Rebecca Gilkes, daughter of a well- known Dundalk family and raised a family of four sons and one daughter. The fam- ily resided' in Holstein for a time and moved to Lucknow in 1947 where they operated a feed store and egg grading station. In 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Baker purchased the former Moorehouse Mitchell home and opened the first home for .chronic care resid- ents in the area, now known as Pine Lodge Rest Home. Mr. Baker, a pioneer in the nursing home field operated homes in Lucknow; Brussels and Shelburne --his family in Mount Forest, Alliston, Col- lingwood and Stayner. He was a member of the Angli- can Church of Canada, the IOOF Lodge and an accom- plished entertainer in his earlier years, playing the fiddle and.. singing for danc- es. He had a special love for Scottish music and the bag- pipes. Mr. Baker is . survived by his wife Mary, sons Victor, at home, Arthur, Mount Forest., Alvin, Stayner, ,Bruce., Mag- netawan, and daughter Eil- een (Mrs. - Wayne. Edgar), Collingwood, brother Wil- liam Arthur, Toronto, half sisters Peg and Ruby and brother George. of .Sussex, England, nieces and neph- ews and fourteen grandchild- ren. Predeceased by his parents and sister, Gladys. The funeral . , service . was conducted by the Rev. Canon A. W. Downer at. the McMil- lan and Jack Funeral Home, Dundalk, July 25th. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Steven, Jeffrey, David, Brian, Richard and Robin Baker. Flower bearers were grandchildren, Sandra, Wen- dy, Roger and Michael Bak- er, nephews David and Allan Whyte. Interment in Ventry Cem- etery. MYRTLE AGNES FINNIGAN Miss Myrtle Agnes Finni- gan of 20 Elgin Avenue East, Goderich died after a brief illness in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Sunday, August 12 at the ager , of 74. She was born on December 1,5, 1905 in West Wawanosh Township to Sarah 'Mow - man) and Richard Finnigan. She lived in West, Wawa - nosh Township until moving to Goderich 19 years ago. She was .a member of Victoria Street United Church, Goderich: She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Olive Culbert and Christena Finnigan, both of Goderich; six brothers, John of Wingham, Benson, Roy, .Kitchener; and Gordon, all of Goderich and Herbert of Dungannon; and several nieces and nephews. She , was predeceased by one sister, Mary.. A funeral service was held at Stiles Funeral Home in Goderich on Tuesday, Aug- ust 14 at 2 p.m. The Rever- end A. C. Young officiated. Interment was in Dungan- non Cemetery. Pallbearers were the late Miss Finnigan's six brothers, Benson, John, Roy, Kitch- ener, Gordon and Herbert. Flower bearers were her three nephews, Keith, Lynn and George Finnigan. RICHARD TRELEAVEN KILPATRICK Richard Treleaven Kilpat- rick of Wingham died sud- denly in Wingham and Dist- rict Hospital of a stroke on Saturday, August 18, 1979 in his 68th year. Formerly employed by Lucknow Co-op and Howson and Howson of Wingham, he had retired in August of 1977. He was an active member of the Gideons International in Canada for 25 years and was made an Honourary Life Member in June, 1979. Richard attended Cherry Grove Public School, S. S. 9 Ashfield, Lucknow Continua- tion School, Goderich. Col- legiate Institute. and Strat- ford Normal ' School. After teaching for a short time and farming in Ashfield for over twenty years, Dick was Prin- cipal of Turnberry Central School for five years. He was employed by the Lucknow and. District Ce -op as man- ager of the store and later by Howson and Howson of Wingham. He retired in. August 1977. Since leaving' the farm in 1960, the family has resided in Wingham. Born in Ashfield Township on June 28, '1912, he was the son of the late Samuel J. Kilpatrick of Ashfield and the late Elizabeth M. Ander- son of Ashfield. He married Annie M. At- kinson in Goderich on Nov- ember 11, 1939. Besides his wife, ' he is survived by two sons, Doug- las Richard of R. 3 Palmer- ston, and. Grant Atkinson of Bracebridge and one daugh- ter, ' Karen Anne of Barrie. He is also survived by five grandchildren, a brother, Palmer of Agincourt and a sister, Olive Mae Blake of Dungannon. He was predeceased by his parents and an infant daugh- ter in 1944. The funeral was held at. the MacKenzie and ' McCreath Funeral Hine in Lucknow on Tuesday,. August 21, 1979 at 2.00 p.m. Rev. Ross Smith. of Wingham Baptist i Church officiated. Soloist Frank Col- lar of Wingham sang Mr. Kilpatrick's favourite hymn, An Can It Be 'That I Should Gain. Flower bearers were Clif- ford Kilpatrick, Fred Ander- son, Grant Sowerby and Barry Ilaldenby. Pallbearers were Gordon Anderson, James Blake, d Fred Howson, Arnold Thom- son, Glenn Scheifele and Bruce MacLean: Burial followed in Dun- gannon Cemetery. MISS MARY GRACE, MURRAY Miss Mary Grace Murray of San Francisco, California died in San Francisco on Wednesday, August 8 at the age of 79. She was born on. January 9, 1900 to Alexander- and Grace (MacGregor) Murray in Bismarck, North Dakota. She taught school in San Francisco for 40 years. She is survived by one sister, Mrs., Flora Bonham of Walnut.
