In Millarton, Sunday, Aug.
ust 9th at 2 p.m., under
sunny skies, the Bruce Coun.
ty Historical Society unveiled
a plaqueto commemorate
the Kincardine Township
Armory and the military
career of Major William Dan-
iel.
The Armory is situated on
the farm of Mr. and Mrs.
Mel Dahmer. Those present
for the occasion were mem-
bers of the Daniel family,
members of the Historical
Society, neighbours and
friends. Mr. and Mrs. R. B.
Berryman travelled from Vir-
ginia to join their family in
marking the event,
John Reynolds, chairman
of, the Plaque Committee
indicated that four genera-
tions of the Daniel family had
been :born in Kincardine
Township and their descend-
ants live there now.
Mr. VVm. Collins, Presid-
ent of the Bruce County
Historical Society, welcomed
• the guests and gave some
facts on . the Fenians. Tom
Daniel; son of Charles and
June, on behalf of the family,
. thanked the Society for hon-
• ours bestowed on his ancest-
or. He was joined by Mrs.
Harold MacKay, grand-
daughter of Major Daniel,
• and they unveiled the
•„plague. The inscription was
• rea81,by Mrs. Edna Avery, a\
memiSer of the plaque com-
mittee.
Reeve Alvin 'Thompson
• brought greetings and best
wishes from the Kincardine
Township Council. Letters of
greeting, and good wishes
were read, from Murray
Gaunt M.P.P. and Dr. G.
Gurbin M.P., who were un-
able to attend.
• Appreciation was extend-
ed to Mr. and Mrs. Dahmer
for their help and co-opera-
tion in establishing the Arm-
ory as an historical site. Mr.
Harold MacKay closed the
ceremonies with a fitting
benediction. The Daniel fam-
ily issued an invitation to join
them at the foot of the 7th
concession, Kincardine
Township for refreshments.
The establishment of an
historic marker costs approx-
imately five hundred dollars.
The Society is trying to re-
cover this by means of dona-
tions. If you would like to
