Hall Paisley Town Hall was the meeting place for the regular monthly meeting of the Bruce:County Historical Soc- iety executive in August. The members were given a tour of the hall which has been renovated in recent "ears. The original character of the building' has been care- fully preserved so that its windews, doors, staircase, wainscoting, even the prison cells in the basement which are no longer used, have all been preserved. The differ- ence today is that everything has been given a fresh coat of - paint, the walls have been insulated, repairs made wherever necessary, and fac- ilities such as heating and ,lighting brought up to date. The stage in the auditorium • upstairs, which has excellent acoustics, has been enlarg2 ed, and a modern, small kitchen installed off a meet- ing room downstairs. The door knobs and other brass pieces throughout the build - Ing catch your eye-Virith their brightne:ss, ' and the light fixtures '°blend in with the • style tit tfic rirchitecutre, The .4`old Town, Hall" is a credit to the town of Paisley, and another good example of • what can be done to preserve • a building of an older era. • The Historical Society president, 'William A. Col- lins, conducted the meeting which followed the tour of the building. Three visitors •were present. Dr. John Nes- bitt, a member of the Soci- ety, a teacher at the -Univer- sity of Iowa in Iowa City, was present, and thanked the Society for the help he has received in tracing his Nes- bitt and Jackson ancestry in ' Bruce. He Said he is fascin- ated by., the architectural • style of the houses in Bruce and admires them. Two other visitors were also present, Miss Kelly and • Rick Dales from Greenock Township. They are involved •in compiling a history •of Greenock and asked for sug- gestions regarding where to • search for more information. • • • A discussion of the problem brought out several new ideas .for them. Plans are being arranged for the annual dinner meet^ ing to be held in October in Teeswater. A report was given about the July bus trip, to the Ontario Agricultural Museum near Miltonand the Halton County Museum. Two buses picked up 86 passengers throughout the county. Box lunches were eaten •at the Agricultural Museum and then a tour was made of the various build- ings before going to the Halton Museum. Everybody stopped for supper at the Ponderosa in Guelph, The Publications Commit- tee reported a meeting had been held on August 1 at the home of the editor of the Society's Year Book, Mrs. Clarence McGillivray at Ar- ran Lake. The 1969 Year Book has been out of print for several years and 200 copies of it have been reprinted. They are available from the secretary, Mrs. George Downey, Tiverton, or book- stores in the county, at $2 per, copy. A surname index of Nor- man Robertsons History of Bruce Connty, • 1906, has • been • ceinpleted this sum- mer. Several members ofthe Society have worked on the • project by each indexing a • few chapters. of the book. This spring. a Society mem- • ber • residing - in Langley, B.C., Mrs. A. W.
