Playwright speaks to Kinloss-Kairshea Ail
The Kinloss-Kairshea
Women's Institute held their
Education and Cultural Ac-
tivities meeting on Thursday,
August 16 at '8 p.m. in the
Institute Hall.
The president, Mrs. Allan
MacDougall, opened the
meeting and welcomed ev-
eryone. Mrs. Gordon Wall
read the scripture. The sec-
retary treasurer read the
minutes and correspond-
ence. Mrs. Lloyd MacDoug-
4l reported on the bus trip in
July. The ladies, and some of
their husbands and friends
enjoyed a tour of the Bronz
Village in Elmira, saw the
oldest covered bridge in
Canada, and travelled on to
Kitchener where they toured
the Weston's Bakery. After.
shopping at the Conestoga
Mall they enjoyed a roast
beef dinner at. the Bavarian
Inn. Thanks goes to the
directors in charge, Mrs.
Evan Keith and Mrs. Bob
Gilchrist.
Mrs. Allan MacDougall.
was named delegate to the
Area Convention to be held
in Meaford September llth
and 12th. Mrs. Virden Mow-
bray reported on a very suc-
cessful Craft Festival. Kair-
shea catered to the lunch and
dinner and looked after the
booth on Friday, August 3rd.
Mrs. Harvey Houston report-
ed on the display that Kair-
shea will enter in the Luck -
now Fair. She also reported
on the 60th reunion of the
F.W.I.O. held August 15 at
Bingeman Park in Kitchener.
Over 195 ladies attended and
many past presidents, sec-
retaries ,etc. renewed old
acquaintances.
Four ladies, Mrs. Harry
Lavis, Mrs. Frank MacKen-
zie, Mrs. George McBride
and Mrs. Fred Gilchrist jour-
neyed to Southampton to the
Bruce County Museum
where they pieced together a
quilt top to be quilted later.
They worked in the log house
and enjoyed the day away.
Mrs. Cliff Roulston gave out
the Arthritis kits to the ladies
that offered to collect on each
concession.
Mrs. Frank MacKenzie
was in charge of the pro-
gram. Mrs. Sheila .Clarke led
in a sing song.
Mrs. Ira Dickie introduced
the guest speaker, Mr. Keith
Roulston, of Blyth. Keith has
written a few .plays that were
produced at the Blyth Theat-
re. He showed slides and told
much of what goes on behind
the scenes. Mrs. Frank Mac-
Kenzie thanked Keith for a
very interesting and infor-
mative talk.
The roll call, "A famous
character I would like to
play", was well answered.
Mrs. Sheila Clarke gave a
very good motto, "Should
children be seen but not
heard". She said the motto
would be very bad for the
child and gave viewpoints
from the teacher, the parent
and the citizen. She said that
speaking and listening for
the child is part of language,.
