MacDonald clan hold 50th reunion
On Saturday, August 4,
195 members of the•MacDon-
ald families gathered at the
Cedar Grove on. tpe Mac-
Donald homestead at Loch-
alsh for the SQth time.
The afternoon was spent
visiting and catching up on
the news of the clan, while
the strain of the bagpipes
echoed through the cedars..
Finlay MacDonald,. the
president, welcomed all to
the gathering and was very
fittingly attired in a suit he
had tailored for the occasion,
of the Clan MacDonald Tar-
tan.
Bert MacDonald, Murray
MacDonald and Walter Col-
lins accompanied by Mabelle
'MacDonald at the piano
opened the program by play-
ing a selection of familihi
violin tunes,
The president then made
mention of the flags that are
flown on reunion day. The
Canadian flag came from the
Parliament Buildings in Ot-
tawa and the American flag
came from the White House
in Washington D.C.
Catherine Andrew then
related a very interesting
history of "Aunt Jenny Len-
nie" who started the reunion
50 years ago and that it was
her dying wish that the
MacDonald families would
always gather together every
year.

crowd by dancing the High-

member of the clan and
hoped for the continued suc-
cess of the reunion in the
years to come.
Mary. Lillian. Simpson. then
danced the Highland Ring
and she wasaccompanied by
David MacDonald playing'
the bagpipes and Mac Web-
ster on the drums.
Gordon MacDonald of
Merrit, B.C. and Alice Rich-
ardson of the Queen Char-
lotte Islands expressed their
pleasure to be present at the
50th anniversary of the clan.
Finlay MacDonald also
spoke to the gathering of the
heritageof the clan and the
family ties that have kept the
•
family together all these
years. He spoke also of the
physical surroundings of the
picnic grounds which have
kept all the clan close to their
roots.
A minute's silence was
observed in memory of those
who had passed on during
the past year. and they were;
Pete Agnew, Mrs. Tom
Lennie and Bob Lennie.
At this time the sunshine
disappeared and the rain
came to put a damper on the
remainder of the program
but despite rain the following
people were acknowledged:
oldest lady, Mrs. Elizabeth
Struthers; oldest gentleman,
Mr. D. A. MacLennan;
youngest, Lenny McLeod,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken
