Tour Cabot Trail on Maritime trip
Clayton and Doris
Nicholson and Debbie
Fair returned from a two-
week visit with' John and
Ann Marie, Iaian and
Gordon of Saint John,
New Brunswick.
With the Langleys they
toured the Cabot Trail,
the Alexander Bell
Museum at Baddeck,
Nova Scotia, the Fortress
of Louisbourg, and two
boat cruises - one from
Saint John, N.B. to
Digby, N.S.
They also attended the
Cape Breton wedding of
Ann Marie's brother.
,They flew from Toronto
airport to St,. John and
returned. They enjoyed
the scenic sights of the
Cabot Trail on Cape
Breton and passed 'The
Gaelic College of Celtic
Farms on Highway 86
along side the farm of
Mrs. Gordon Finlayson.
The funeral service was•
held last Sunday af-
ternoon at the MacKenzie
McCreath Home in
Luckow with interment in
Lochalsh Cemetery.
Sympathy is extended to
his sisters and brothers at
this time of bereavement.
We remember R.D. as
a willing worker from the
thirties when the writer
worked at Lochalsh and
also from .the 1952 Ripley
Huron Lewis Centennial
Reunion when he helped
set up booths and similar
jobs.

A week ago' Floyd and
Lynne Stanley,.. Deane
and. Kerry returned to
their home in Ripley from
a week's vacation in
ritis,h Columbia... They
flew from Toronto airport.
to Vancouver. After
visiting here they took the
ferry ride over to Victoria
on Vancouver Island.
The annual Sale of
Antiques held by George
McDonald of Ripleg vill
take place on Sat., Aug.
25 which is a week from
this coming Saturday and
it will start early at 9:30
a.m. The site of the sale
has been changed- this
year to the Huron
Township Garage at the
east end of Malcolm
Street.
This is a block east of
the Ripley Curling arena.
His wife Mrs.Erma
McDonald, says that this
will be their first
dispersal sale as George
plans to decrease his
operations. His annual
sales have in past years
attracted . people from
many different centres
resulting in a reunion
atmosphere as well as an
aucton sale.
Native of Lochalsh,
R.D. Ross of Lucknow
passed away last week in
Wingham and District
Hospital in his '68th year.
His parents were the late
Mr. and Mrs.Rory Ross -
the present Riegling
Mount Forest pL cing
first and second in two
events there. • Then he
went. to Atwood to
compete in the Junior
Farmers Meet where the
five surrounding counties
competed.
Larry placed first in
the _ 25 and 100 meter
events qualifying him for
the All Ontario cham-
pionship at the Junior
Farmers'. Summer
Games held last Saturday
at Guelph against .older
and more mature
swimmers. Heplaced
second in the 25 meter
event and first in the 100
meter swim and lowered
his record by seven
seconds.
We are pleased to see.
Larry doing so well in the.
swimming. Larry is the
son of Jim and Dorothy
Needham, of the Tenth
Concession east, Huron
township and •also the
grandson of Mr. and Mrs.
Stewart Needham of
Ripley and Mr. and Mrs.
Nelson,Howe of Paisley.
Only a few weeks ago
Larry, who plays., the
bagpipes, was with the
MacNish Distillery Band
of St. Thomas led by Bill
MacLeod of Kincardine
when they played at one
of the gatherings of the
clans in Antigonish, Nova
Scotia.

weekend in Ripley with
Mr. and Mrs. Sam

Competition in Shelburne
last Friday and Saturday

Mrs. Eleanor Town-
send of Willowdale in
Metro Toronto won the
Open Canadian Old Time
Fiddler's championship
last Saturday evening in
Shelburne. This is the
first time a lady has been
awarded this honour.
Formerly she held the
championship in the
ladies division.
Both her mother and
her sister live in Ripley.
Her mother,
Mrs.Frances Reid, the
former Frances Mon-
tgomery is a resident of
Huronvilla in Ripley and
she attended the
Shelburne Competition.
Her sister Jewel is Mrs.
Del Stanley. Mr. and Mrs.
Del Stanley live in their
new home at the east end
of Ripley on . the 8th'
Concession. .While
Eleanor and her husband
Graham Townsend were
at Shelburne and also at
the CKNX Barn Dance,
Reunion a week ago their
four year old son Graham
Jr. has been staying these
past two weeks with Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley and
family here in Ripley. So
congratulations of the
Ripley, folk go to Eleanor
Townsend
Her grandparents, the
late Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Montgotnery, farmed and
raised their family on the
homestead now owned by
Johnston MacLeod just
south of Ripley. The
members of their family
are Frances of Ripley,
Gordon of , Lucknow,
Isabel of Cambridge and
Robert who was killedin
the Canadian Armed
Forces. Eleanor, Jewel
and their brother Jim
Reid of Toronto were
raised in Dungannon
where their parents Allan
and Frances Reid lived
beside the public school.
In fact Allan Reid drove a
bus and years back has
taken the Ripley,. High.
School on trips to the city.
Everyone is welcome to
come to Gore Park this
Friday, August 17 to see
the Ripley Summer Play
School in action. The girls
and boys directed.. by
their leaders Barbara
Grubb, Dawna R'utiedge,
and Shannon Courtney
are holding a Penny
Carnival from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m.
Some of the booths set
up and run by the
children will be a fish
pond, bake table, money
whedl, joking robot,
fortune teller, rummage
table, haunted house, and
many more. They are
hoping for a good day and
