ripely firemenanswer three calls.
Early last Friday
morning shortly after, six
the Ripley fire sireh .
sounded oh the calm
summer air. Firefnen
were soon at the hall and
" in a couple . of minutes
rounding the bank corner
on their way down the
eighth were the fire
engine, the tanker truck,
and cars:
The call was to the
second beach cottage
north of the foot of the
sixth concession in Huron
township where
something had gone
wrong with the propane
system and fortunately it •
was detected in time.

rushed to the hall to
answer the alarm in-

Ray'Fuller, Joellodgins,
Rod MacDonald, Harrvey ..
Pollock, Doug Liddle,

Monday afternoon,
June 18, the Ripley fire
siren sounded twice. The
first time the Ripley Fire
Department was called to
the new Royal Bank when
manager Bill Carsbn-and
Paul Auger orr'the staff
smelled. smoke.
On investigating Bill
found that fire in the staff
lounge was the cause,
apparently from the
coffee percolator.
Prompt action by Ripley
Firemeh"ning chemical
spray put out the flames.
Damaged beside the.
percolator were the
counter, top, radio, and
four light fixtures also the
nearby inner --wall-. They
had to get the back door
of the bank open.: This
was toclear out the dense
smoke.
Bank teller Kathleen
Hunter was on holidays at
the time. Staff members
present were Helen
McCreath, Marj.
MacTavish, Laurie
Gallant and Bev
Hodgins.Bill Carson
rescued Marj
MacTavish's purse and
the only money lost was
the coffee fund.
Well. about an hour
after that excitement the
fire whistle again
sounded. This time it was
a home . in IHuronville
south of Kincardine
where an electric oven
was .on fire. The firemen
. arrived in" time there, so
that makes three calls in
the two weeks.
