Mrs. ,Allan Ashley (the former Myrtle McGillivray) of Wiarton celebrated het 90th birth- day .. on Sunday. Mrs. Ashley's brother, Rev. Charles McGillivray of Vancouver will be 92 on the. first of. August. They are the surviving members of a family of nine born and raised, on the farm of Doug and Marian Lackey on the 4th concession just east of the former Shirt Bowers farm, now the farm of Mr. and Mrs'. Bob Black- well. On Saturday afternoon, June 23, .the weather was really like that in the fall of the year - cold and windy. As a result, the • sidewalks and streets were. bare until the wedding party of Mr. and Mrs, Kevin Cook arrived from the 8th, west to liven things up. However it must have been cold for them sitting in the open on an antique vehicle. Kevin is the, son of Mr. and Mrs. Graham Cook of Ripley and his bride is the - daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Simpson of Kintail. Mr.,and Mrs. John McMurchy'-of . 'illi"know, their daughters, husband`s; .and grand- children enjoyed dinner at the Maitland Restaurant in Wingham last Sun., June 24. The family was celebrating their mother's 87th birth- day. And after the dinner they returned to spend a social evening at the McMurchy home in Lucknow. , John's sister, Mrs. Lizzie (Peter). MacDonald of Ripley enjoyed the evening with them. On Sat., June 16, forty - Six people left on a bus trip to Gananoque and other points of interest. They arrived at Lanark in the afternoon where they visited the Kitten Stores and on to Perth to Silversmiths and saw the lovely old town of Perth and surrounding country and then on to The Colonial Motel at Gananoque. Next day they saw the Upper Canada Village Eisenhower Locks, Moses Saunder's Power Dam and the beautiful St. Lawrence Islands along the old number 2 high- way, the scenic route along the St. Lawrence Seaway. The sun came. out at • noon and they boarded a boat at Por- tland for a cruise of . the Rideau Lakes'. This was a highlight of the trip as the water was lovely., scenery beautiful and a , commentator said much about the Rideau Canal and locks tracing . the story back to the building of the canal by Col. John Bye in 1826. The whole system is 125 miles long with only 13 miles ar- tificial. What a tremendous task was accomplished by Col. Bye and his engineers. The meals were good at all times. Each evening different entertainment was provided and en- joyed. On the way home the group visited the. Ontario Agricultural Museum at Milton where many old agricultural antiques are exhibited. This trip was planned by Reg Moore. The group was sorry that he could not be with them. Hurrays honoured on anniversary The family of Mr. and Mrs. Radcliff Murray gather- ed at the White Carnation, Holmesville on Sunday,. June 24th to celebrate their par- ents' 48th . wedding anniver- sary. Mr. and Mrs. Murray were married June. 27, 1931 in Ashfield. Mrs. Murray was the former Frances Reid. Their family all of whom were present are son, Donald and his wife Dorothy,•daugh- ter Norma and her husband Celebrate 55 year marriage Mr. and Mrs. Wes Ritchie, Lucknow, celebrated . their 55th Wedding anniversary at a ,family dinner, at the Mait- land Restaurant in Wingham on Sunday. Theywere mar- ried .55 years .on Monday, ,June 25. Mrs. Ritchie is a daugh- ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Nixon, Ashfield and Mr. Ritchie is a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ritchie, Ashfield. They were married June 25, 1924 at the home of the bride's parents. They were attended by the bride's sist- er, Mary McKay of Walker- ton, formerly of Port Elgin and the groom's brother, Jack Ritchie of Lucknow Mr. Ritchie attended the dinner in Wingham on Sunday but Mrs. MacKay was unable to be pre4e.nt. `•Mt;, and Mrs. Ritchie have a family of one son, Allan of Ashfield; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren..
