Ripley Junior Farmers and the Ripley , District Lions Club. Some of the items include rubber tires, a -new high swing, a spring seat and `other things.. Already they are being used by more young boys .and girls at play. Larry Coiling cut the lawn and Allage foreman Donnie !'eterbaugh cut the places which were hard o . reach and also did •ome brushing and .;eneral cleaning. Recently it was a pleasant surprise to find 'he sixth concession west in Huron Township had been paved with tar and crushed rock. During the past year Corinne MacDonald,. daughter of Mary and John C. MacDonald of Ripley has been teaching. in the Jonas Salk School in Sacramento, California. On May 18 the school headlined its newspaper "Versatile Teacher leaves in .June" and an article .stating "at the end of this year she will be leaving us to go back to Canada. She's a great teacher,. and I'm sure the whole school is going to miss her". They had an outlinemap of Ontario drawn and marked Corinne's home village. Ripley. There - she There' she taught music and math. They also men- tioned her playing the bagpipes, organ, and piano, her singing and diredting ..choirs. And. they gave a description of curling - just a little bit different to the usual way. On Sunday afternoon in. the high school auditorium an "Open House" party was held. for Mrs. Katherine Collins and Mrs. Tsabel Marlyn who are retiring from the staff and teaching. Both are highly respected, popular and native to this area. Everyone wishes them the best in their years of retirement from the 'teaching profession Coiling visited in Wingham with John's sister - Mrs. Freda Haines. It was her 80th birthday and folks in the Ripley -Huron area wish her well. Mrs. Haines, a graduate of the Ripley continuation school, was a teacher. The dinner party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Haines and family. Harold and Tena Wyld of Weston visited at noon hour with their brother- in-law Niels Frederiksen of Ripley at the Kin- cardine Town and Saskatchewan they -- •toured the Just -A -Mere visited two large Hereford farms - the Habuk Bros. and the John Easau farms at Bellamy. At Lloydminster, Farms • owned- and operated by Jonathon Fox. They had met him at the. Royal Winter Fairs. Covering 35 sections of land and employing 45 people it is one of the top Hereford farms in North America. They also visited with Cal and Myles Givens'formerly of Lucknow. June meeting of the Ripley- Agricultural Society on Monday evening of last week, June 18, were president Dan A. MacDonald, secretary Don MacTavish, treasurer Gloria Rutledge, Sheila MacDonald, Ray Fuller, Bob Osborne, : Nina Rouse, John Gamble, —Gordon Patterson, Morley Scott and Ab Wylds. Last Saturday Oliver and Marion McCharles of the Lochalsh area retdrned home from a three week trip "' to. Western Canada and United States. Going out they went by the newest branch, of the Trans Canada:' Highway in Northern Ontario. In Northern Manitoba they BIRTHDAYS Visitors with Mrs. Thos Welsh at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton, on June" 21, were Mrs. D.A. MacDonald, Mrs. W.J. Mackay, Mrs. Mel Colling, and Mrs. Reta Irwin all of Ripley. Other visitors. were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wildfong of Cambridge. A pleasant afternoon was spotlit Mrs. Welsh, on ` the oc ' casion of her 94th bir- thday. Her friends and neighbours in Huron Township and Ripley send along best wishes. On Sun., June 24 Mr. and MrS, John Coiling and Mrs: Katherine from there to . Calgary where .they visited Mr. and Mrs. John Hamilton (the former Sandra MacCharles).and Mr. and Mrs. David Lackey. Then .they spent a few days at Banff. Ontheir way they were at. Peace. Gardens on the border, between Manitoba and North Dakota. It is the central. spot of North America. Then they came through Minnesota, Wisconsin. and Michigan . returning to Ontario . Saturday evening for supper with their son John, wife Mary Ann, and son Ryan in Petrolia and from there back home - a distance of six thousand miles. Last, week the barricades went up with Turn to page 19 • Show :.slides of Eurasia trip • The Ripley and District Horticultural melting was held on June 20 at 8 p.m. in the Ripley Huron' Legion Hall. The hostess was Mrs. Bert Irwin. Convenor of the meeting, Mrs. Clif Geddes had, arranged for Mrs. Ann Gordon of Kincardine to show slides of her travels to England, Ireland, Scotland, Canary Islands, Italy, Sicily, Japan and other places. They were just . wonderful and covered an hour. Joan MacLeod gave a report on the Spring Flower Show. Mrs. Worthington accompanied by Dorothy Finlayson . and Mary Black attended the Convention held in the Holiday. Inn, London and each gave a report. Bette MacLeod 'and Edna Stanley have arranged a bus trip to the Botanical Gardens in Hamilton and other places of interest on July 14. The roll call was answered by making and wearing a corsage.
