The Lucknow Sentinel, 1979-04-25, Page 10Page 10-p—Lodmow Sentinel, Wednesday, April 25, 1979 Retain JIM HAGERTY, I don't like looking stup- id. But it happens. Last night 1 drove with my• wife and friends to a favourite rest- aurant in London. It took me forty minutes driving all over the city until finally happen- ing upon the place. We had a exibility in fine meal. As we pulled out into traffic again something seemed different. Then it happened. Cars started honking and drivers waved so I veered off into another street. My wife, in her best back seat voice said "you'd better pull over, there's a police car behind with flash- ing lights." The policemt3n pulled alongside and through rolled down windows blurted "you've really done it -- you've just gone the wrong way on two different one way streets. Wheel it around and get going the other way." Wow, what a relief -- no ticket! He didn't charge me New rules make it easier...... • from page 2 icate. If you are applying for proxy voting because of ill- ness or physical incapacity, you must present a certi- ficate from a legally qualified medical practitioner. Like the rest of us, farmers make . mistakes. Their mis- takes are "oh, so obvious" to neighbours. Plow a crooked furrow, miss a strip at plant- ing time, overlap with atra- zine spray, and you hear "fell asleep, eh" or "guess you forgot to read the labels". Most can take these comments in stride by saying "next time" and feeling bet- ter instantly. But, what about the deci- sions that have no next time? Farm families tell of neigh- bottrs who retired ten years ago at age sixty. Now, son has a farm worth half a million dollars and parents are living in town on a small pension. Parents are caught in a dilemma. They want to do. the best for their children -- yet they don't want to look stupid. "What if we make a Targe gift to son, he buys the farm today and sells it in six months? What if he marries some ding -a -ling and they take off to California? What if something happens to him and she inherits the farm?" There are no pat answers. About all we can suggest is retain some flexibility. Prov- ide opportunities and a test- ing period for young people. Consult a lawyer about op- tions and clauses to include in agreements and wills. Be open about feelings. Young people , understand about looking stupid; they may not realize it's a lifetime thing. We all. know that rules can be changed, sign's -may not be obvious and streets can become one way. , IRRELL HISPERFOR ODGE CHRYSLER..o. , ° ,tow aCEo 1978 DODGE OMNI 'Five -door hatchback, 4 cylinder.
