He was a good communi-
cator! I could see his point
and understand his feelings.
So I asked, "Does Dad know
how you feel?" He no longer
was such a good communica-
tor! He didn't know what to
say. He looked uncomfort-
able. After some fumbling he
made what was to him a
factual statement. "A son
just doesn't talk to Dad about
taking over the farm."
It takes a lot of courage to
open up some subjects. It
used to be a sign of courage
to ask a girl for a dance. And
then to ask her if she would
like a ride home was even
more courageous. At some
point along this line of brave
deeds you faced the risk of
getting your face slapped.
The funny thing later on wa"s
finding out she was hoping
all along along that you
would ask.
How many dads are hop-
ing sons will ask?Maybe dad
says' to 'himself, "I'll wait
until he has the courage to
ask about entering into the
farm business." It 'may be
one way dad has of testing
sod's maturity.
Today, very few farms are,
sold, outright to family. 'The
proc ss is more oneof,evolu-
tion than. revolution. ;Evolu-
tion fits into the scheme of.
things around a farm.
Change is gradual and
growth of plants, animals
and people is a natural thing.
However, it is useful to have
some check -points in, the
system. There -needs- o_be.
some way of setting goals
and testing progress,
A Farm Business Agree
ment between. two genera-
tions is a useful tool. Each
contributes individually or.
jointly owned assets, labour
and management to the
business. Net income is split
on some agreed percentage.
The agreement is a useful
means in the transfer of farm
assets while the junior mem
ber is accumulating assets
and working into thebusi-
ness and the senior member
is phasing out of the busi-
ness.

Editorial
Once again the • halls of
Madill are filled with dispair.
Exam schedules are up.
This, however, should not be
a time - for the defeatist
attitudes which are becoming
all too apparent. It is a time
of hard work, and reward for
that work. ,
We shouldbe optomistic in
our outlooks realizing that
with hard work and a little
luck, we will benefit from
(rather than be defeated by)
the exams. If there are
pessimists who cannot see
this as hopeful or good, the.
only optomistic note'. I,, tan
add for you, is: they only last
a week and a half.
Good Luck to all on this
second set of examinations!

School .qu ejt
chosen
It was a tense morning for
many "gals" at F. E. Madill
S. S. as the ballots were cast
for School Queen. Finally,
the winner was revealed and
Cindy Campbell proved `•vi• c-^-
torious.
Cindy was born in London,
Ontario and as a child moved
to the small community of
Belgrave where she now
resides.
Cindy is active in sports,
where her main interest lies,
and was a cheerleader last,
year. She is now a member of
the :,.ski' 'club, curling club,
arid geography club. ••••°r
She is presently enrolled in
Glade 12, which will be her
final year at "Madill". When
.askedi_vhat she would like_toT
accomplish in the future.,
Cindy replied that she is
pursuing' a career ; in travel.
She feels that this field of
work would ` bring many
rewards. .
Cindy's comments on
"participaction" in the.
school touched on the belief
that some people do not get
involved in student activities.
because they are too self-
conscious and do not want
others to laugh' at them or
think them different. She
maintains that as dnegets
more involved, he/she will
gain more. self-assurance.
Thus, one will benefit from a
morefully-rounded life.
Cindy enjoyed "Sno Fest
79" immensely and feels that
the events were extremely
well attended. The carnival
will become one of the things
she will cherish in her "F. E,
treasure of memories" when
she leaves for' the big world
beyond. •
Her abilities to make
friends easily and enjoy her-
self while' working diligently,
make her aI excellent choice
for School Queen. Her, lead-
ership qualities will certainly
help her to be successful in
life.
We'll all miss Cindy's
warm smile and cheery "hel-
lo" which never fail t make
a day a little bit brighter.
Best of Luck, Cindy!!
