reached depths of four

snow covered. So frozen
water pipes resulted in
• many places. And at the
time of writing (Monday
of this week) it is still cold
and raw.
Last Wednesday was

Ripley - and District
Horticulture Society held
their meeting in the
Legion Hall on Tues.,
Feb. 20 with.28 members
present.
Mrs. Lloyd Wor-
thington was the hostess.
In the new business
Joan McLeod will replace
Rita Irwin as auditor.
In keeping with St.
Valentine's Day a sing
song was held with
Marion Gamble as
pianist and Rita Irwin
leading the singing.
Marion also favOured
with two piano in-
strumentals.
Adeline Hackett told of
the legends behind some
of the plants we receive
at Christmas, and also
spoke briefly on an
Installation service held
at a Garden Club in Lake
Placid Florida.
The woman installing
•
the new • officers in the
Garden Club,(which
closely resembles our
Horticultural Society)
compared the progress of
the club to the care and
culture of an African
Violet. The time and work
_put into the care of a
violet determines the
success of the plant. So it
is in our society, the final
results are based on what
we have put into -it during
the year.
She presented each new
officer with a violet and
chose the colours most
closely related to their
office.
Mrs. Walter Farrell
gave the courtesies, after
which lunch was served
by the committee Erma
McDonald, Clara Shiells
