Lancers down two games to
The Lancers started their
playoff series, with Mildmay
last Friday night in Mildmay
but the local boys seemed to
forget it was playoffs after
the first period was over.
The score was tied 1 1
after thefirst with Lucknow's
goal coming on a short
handed effort by Carl Stanley
with assists going to Mont-
gomery and Frayne.
The second and third
periods ,belonged entirely to
Mildmay as they scored four
goals in the second and three
in the third to win the game 8
- 1.
The high point for, the
Lancers in the game was the
play of Dave ' Riggin who
despite the score, played a
super game in the nets for
The Lancers.
PLAY SECOND GAME
The series shifted to Luck -
now on Sunday night and the
Lancers seemed like. they
were ready to redeem them-
selves. Both teams, .came out
flying ,to get that 'first goal
and perhaps an edge on the
other team':
Excellent scoring chances;
were missed by both teams
in the first ten minutes of the
first period. The Lancers had
a 14 second lapse and Mild-
may in that time scored two
goals to take the lead. The
Lancers didn't quit and had a
couple of goals taken away
from them , by the , Mildmay
goaltender who played an
outstanding game..

Due to typical manage-
ment of the , W.O.A.A. an-
other team popped up for the
W.O.A.A. DD Championship
by the name of Brussels.
Through no fault of Brussels
a quick series had to be
arranged for Wednesday and
Friday.
Lucknow took the best of
three in two straight games
by scores of 7 , 1 and 6 2.
Scoring for Lucknow were
Steve Simpson with 4 goals,
Paul Hamilton and Ed David-
son 2 goals, and Brad Huni-
Mike Dennis, each with 1
goal.
PLAY IN TOURNAMENT
On. Saturday it was off to
Paisley for their Midget
Tournament. Lucknow's first
victory was over Wiarton 8 -

placed so no scoring data was
available. Thenthe I locals
beat Ripley 5 - 3 in a tiit of,a
struggle. Steve Simpson and
Kent .Alton each got 2 goals.
anda single by Al Rivett.
This put Lucknow into the
final with Durham. With a
lack of bodies and tougher
competition than in the past

with a trophy and each

well deserved. Paul Hamil-

Trailing 3 - 1 on slow ice
going into the third period
they came back to win 4 - 3 in
a real "barn burner". Ray
Guay' made some tremend-
ous key saves in the net to
hold the boys in the game
until Steve Simpson scored
the winner with less than 5
minutes to go in . the game.. •
The team also lost Kevin
Clark again with his shoulder
being re-injured in the sec-
ond period. Ed. Davidson
playing with injuries scored 2
goals, with Paul Hamilton
getting the other.
The next. game .will , be
Sunday, March 4 at 3.30 in
Lucknow.
before Stanley struck for the
Lancers with assists going to
Courtney and Montgomery.
Mildmay then scored , two
more before Kevin Murray
banked one in off the post
with assists going to Stanley
and Forster.
Mildmay then broke the
game open scoring three
more before the period end-
ed and three more in the
third period. Final scold
Mildmay 11, Lucknow 2.
I should point out here that
even though the Lancers
were beaten by nine goals,. it
does not indicate the type of
game played by the Lancers.
Nor did Mildmay dominate
the game that , much, but
that's the way the ball
bounces or puck in this case.
The _ext game will be
played in Mildmay Wednes-
day night at 8.30 and the
Lancers next home game in
the series will be Friday,
March, 2 at 9.00.
Winner of the 50-50 draw
was Mary Jo Henry. 41the
Lancers are holding a dance
on Saturday, March 31 at the
Community Centre. Tickets
are available from team
members or at the door the
night of the dance. Coyne on
