Stanley named best centre at tourney
Highlight of the .Milverton
tournament this weekend for
the Lancers was the play of
Carl Stanley. Carl was voted
best centre and most sports-
manlike player of the tourna-
ment and, on top of all this,
came in second to Goderich's
Dan Duncan in the show-
down competition.
Congratulations go out to
Carl from the Lancers and
their fans.
Atoms play at
Seaforth carnival
• BY GEORGE GIBSON •
On Monday, the Atoms
were gracious: hostsas they
treated the visiting Ripley
team to an 8 - 1 victory. The
Ripley. boys played well but,.
from a Lucknow point of
view, the only bright spot
was a CBC goal in the third
period.
On the weekend, the team
travelled to Seaforth to be
part of the Optimists Winter
Carnival. Although they lost
both games, the boys player..
well `and' were a credit to
their community. -
On Friday night, the game
with. Brussels, for two per-
iods, was • evenly*matched,
•with. 'goodaction. and scoring.
chances at both ends. Unfor-
tunately, 'Bru'ssels scored
with 24 seconds left in • the
second -period and, with 'a
,goal on the scoreboard,held
a slight. edge' in the third.f.
During the third, they added
an insurance ; goal: to coin-,
piete the scoring;•
Todd Scharlach had a' good
game in net, especially.in the
third period, and the whole
team player) well ---they just
couldn't buy a goal.
On Saturday, the, boys
were determined to score a•
few and stay alive in the
tournament but the game
against Alma Logan proved
to be a yery frustrating ex-
perience,
The boys played well for
three •full periods.: They
skated hard, played their'.
positions, passed and check-
ed well. They controlled the
play for at least 75% of the
game and their: fanswere
proud o say "That's our'
team".
Unfortunately, Alma Log-
an scored the only goarof the ti
game, mid. -way through the
third`. and Lucknow headed'
home' ,with visions of missed
scoring chances and. proof
that you .must . score to win. ,.
By the way, the tanned
manager was heard mutter-
ing that, 'regardless of the
score, if the 'boys play like
that, the fans will always be
proud to say "That's' our
. o
Tearn!`'_ .
The Lancers travelled' to
Milverton this past weekend
to take part in the annual
tournament held there. Team
included Dresden, Campbell-
ford, Stirling, Goderich,
Wellesley, Wheatley, Harris -
ton, Milverton, Mount Forest
and Lucknow
Along .with the tourna-
ment, a showdown coanpeti-,
tion was held. Lucknow's
entries in this were shooter
Carl Stanley and goalie Dave
Riggin. ' •
Lucknow didn't fair out too
well in the games, because of •
lack manpower in both
games. On Friday„ night the
score was 8 to 2 for; Harriston
and on Saturday the score
was 8 to. 6. for Wellesley.
Lucknow's next, home
game is Wednesday, Janu-
ary 24 as Mildmay is in town .
at 9.00 and on Sunday,
January 28 when Wellesley
comes to Lucknow at 7.30.
