lusher averts tragedy
A tragedy was -narrowly averted at an
Ashfield home recently, when a fire in. the
bedroom was put out by, a fire extinguisher.

into the •.room and smothered the`firel in the
bedclothes and then noticed' that thebox
springswas smouldering." She ran for a fire
`extinguisher the Cotes keep in their kitchen
and put out, the fire. •
She ' then' called her . neighbour, Jim.
Bradley, who came to helpher carry the box,
springs from: the house.
Cheryl said that, if it had not been.. for the
fire extinguisher, the house and its contents
would have been lost; :because it was.' a
stormy . day and there was no way the fire
department would have reached the home in
time. to save it. ..
• It is' believed that, the bedclothes caught
fire, when .the, childrenwere playing with a
• cigarette lighter, . they found in a dresser
drawer..:
Smoke damage was considerable, ,.said.
Cheryl, and the clothes had fo be washed
and drycleaned because the. powder from;

the cleanup ' is- worth it," she . added, "At
least,' there .is a clean up to do,".
The Cedarhill Garden Centre and Cowan's
Grocery, Store business have: been purchased
in `;partnership : by Dianne Hackett, Jan
Langois and Barb Helm,' ail .of'the :Lucknow
area. The three intend to continue the
Garden Centre which will open' within the
next two weeks and they have plans' fo open
an Icecream •:Parlour,, where the grocery'
business used to be
