Wingham came to life for three
unanswered markers. Fryfogle
scored from Cerson at 3:50,
Forrester found the mark at 5:36
with Cerson assisting again, and
with Dietz off for holding,
McTavish tied the score 5-5,
Peacock collecting the assist at
7:43. Milverton wasn't giving
up and two more counters,
Holmes and Sloat scoring, gave
Milverton a 7-5 lead at the end
of the second.
SIX IN THIRD
Determination and hard work
was the recipe for success as
Wingham came out flying for
the final period, Fryfogle taking
just seven seconds to score, Lee
and Neil assisting. Peacock
tied the score 7-7 at the 1;20
mark with assists going to Irwin
and Houston.
With English off for tripping,
Kerr bounced Milverton ahead
8-7 and came back two minutes
later to give them a comfort-
able 9-7 lead.
At the midway point in the
period Lee scored from Neil
and English, and Houston tied
the score 9-9 at 14:45, assists
going to Irwin and Skinn. Wing-
ham took the lead for the first
time in the game when Strong
scored from Forrester and Mc-
Tavish at 15:30 and Fryfogle's
third goal of the night at 15:47
gave Wingham a two goal lead.
A desperate effort by Milver-
ton gave them one more goal
at 18:05 but Wingham with-

first period of the Listowel

The "180 Sports" came up
with an 8-5 win over Listowel
in intermediate "C" action in
Listowel, on Thursday night.,
A first period blitz gave Wing-
ham a 3-1 lead but it was a
different story in the second as
Listowel tied the score and
early in the third period pulled
ahead 5-4.
Wingham found their second
wind and came on with four
unanswered tallies for the final
score.
Paul Strong led the "180
Sports" with two goals while
Bain, Houston, Irwin, Forrester
and McTavish collected
singles.
TAKE EARLY LEAD
Jim Bain broke onto the
8coresheet at 1"14 of the first,
blasting a slapshot from the
left point after taking a pass
from Houston.
Wingham pressed around
the Listowel goal but Listowel
tied the score at 8;06 on a long
shot from right wing, which
twiner Wayne Riehl tried to
smother but the puck trickled
through his legs and over the
line.
With Richardson of Listowel
off for hooking, Houston took
advantage of the extra man to
flash the light on a deflection,
got it" to which was heard the
reply, "That wasn't the puck
that hit your stick, it was the
tears."
Monty Templeman, Bob Arm-
strong and Pete Snow, all of
Wingham, figured in the scor-
ing of a recent 12.2 loss of the
Listowel Rebels to Elmira.
Templeman scored with Arm-
strong assisting and Snow as-
sisted on the second goal,
SOMEBODY GOOFED!
Somebody goofed! On Friday
night there were three hockey
games scheduled at the Wing-
ham arena but only one was
played. The Midget game was
called off due to sickness in
the Wingham club but the
Bantam game scheduled for
6:30 was never played.
The Lucknow club arrived,
dressed and took to the ice.
Referee George Thomas donned
Paul Strong scored his first of
the night at 17:40, tipping in
a shot by Forrester. Gardner
also picked up an assist.
Before the period ended
Strong put the puck in the net
again but the referee ruled he
had deflected it with his hand
and the goal was disallowed.
Strong says the puck hit him
on the forearm and bounced
into the goal.
WINGHAM SAGS BADLY

the dressing room for the mid-

top saves but a penalty to
Neill, for delaying the game
when he held a puck rather
than throw it to two opposing
forwards who were swooping in
on him, took the sting out of
the Wingham club.
With Houston serving Riehl's
penalty, Listowel scored at
6:00 Richardson from G. Cogh-
lin and Berfelz after their third
try as Wingharri's defense was
ineffective at clearing the
puck from in front of the goal.

were coming back to form

NOTES AND QUOTES
Due to the holidays this week
we were unable to include
Saturday's points in the summar-
ies....Jim Bain left the ice for
first aid twice during Thursday's
8-5 win over Listowel. The
first time he stopped a slapshot
on the knee and later took an
elbow on the nose. When no
penalty was called against the
Listowel culprit Jim flattened
him and both were penalized...
.. Wayne Riehl, playing his
second game of the year for
the "180 Sports" looked quite
good in goal, particularly with
his glove saves. The five that
did beat him were mainly on
scrambly plays in front of the
net McTavish from Blue-
vale scored a goal on his first
night out Thursday. We ima-
gine he will be staying with
the team as he is a real digger
and did well against Listowel..
...Some of the "180 Sports"
had unkind words for the goal-
keeper in the Listowel nets,
McClement, who, they said,
used his stick rather liberally
to clear a swath in front of the
net. He was in fact warned
once by the referee after slash-
ing a player across the stomach
but no penalties were handed
out.
his black and white striped
sweater and checked his whistle.
But Wingham never did arrive.
Apparently the game had been
originally called for 4:00 p.m.
Saturday but had been re-
scheduled, everyone being in-
formed except the Wingham
team.
The Lucknow team officials
were justifiably annoyed as
was the referee and perhaps
more so than anyone, Gary
Templeman, coach of the Wing-
ham team, who was called to
the arena.
assisting.
Listowel caught fire with
two goals in as many minutes,
G. Coghlin from Berfelz and
L. Coghlin, and Berfelz from
G. Coghlin and L, Coghlin.
Both tallies came on scrambles
in front of the Wingham net
with poor defensive clearing.
MacKay and Borton went
off for elbowing and high
sticking at 15:05 and McTavish
got the nod for tripping at
17:13 but Wingham managed to
hold off the Listowel attack
and the period ended.
OUTSCORE LISTOWEL 4-1
At 5:45 of the third frame,
a slapshot from the point beat
Riehl and Wingham hopes
sagged badly as Listowel pulled
ahead 5-4.
Don Lee started the ball
rolling for Wingharn scoring
from Neil at 7;29 to tie the
score. Less than a minute
later Strong grabbed the puck
from a faceoff in the Listowel
zone to drive home his second
of the night.
With the team back in
stride arid well on their way
to victory, two more goals put
the game on ice, McTavish
schoring from Neil, and Irwin
notching his only goal of the
night for the final 8-6 score.
