WINGHAM MANAGED ONLY one goal in
their exhibition match with Detroit Curran
Crane on Friday night, Joe Kerr scoring
from Bob Corrigan. Above, the Detroit
netminder makes a good try at the shot
which can be seen denting the twine. De-
troit won the game 3-1.

"A FAN IN THE STANDS"
The schedule for the local bantam team has been drawn up
and appears elsewhere in this issue.....Intermediate fans will
recall the little scrap George Skinn had with Cole of Winton
when the Redmen visited town some time ago. Evidently Cole
is still up to his tricks as he was awarded a match misconduct as
well as a five minute major for a stick swinging duel with Mag-
wood of Kincardine in a game played recently Alf Lock-
ridge, secretary manager of the WOAA informs us of a notice
regarding rulings in the OHA Manual. Apparently some misunder-
standings developed about rules 206 and 207 on page 52, some
teams waiting until they received notice from the league before
having a match penalized player sit out a game suspension. The
suspension for one game, it is made quite clear, is automatic
and no notification will be forthcoming from the league To-
night (Thursday) the "180 Sports.' travel to Listowel for their first
encounter with that team Saturday night they play host to
Milverton at 8:30 at the Wingham arena Saturday morning,
the Wingham Peewees travel to Teeswater for a match there at
10:30.

PLAYER MISSING
The Goderich Siftos played
without the services of one of
their best men recently in one
of the strangest stories in local
hockey history.
Pirie, a defenceman with
the Siftos, attends the Univer-
sity of Western Ontario and is
picked up after classes on Fri-
days to play in the Siftos week-
end games. On a recent Fri-
day he failed to appear for his
ride so his friend inquired about
him. Turns out Pirie had been
joining a fraternity and had
been "kidnapped" earlier in
the afternoon and put in the
trunk of a car, by the frater-
INTERMEDIATES
For two weeks I have been
asking for another 300 game
from this league and that pal
of mine, Bill Brown came
through last week with a fine
312. This tops the 301 pre-
viously rolled by Larry Gordon.
(Let's see you make those pins

pleman has a leg injury, Carl
Mowbray and Don Hastings

during the exhibition match
with Detroit. Doug slid into
the goalpost and suffered
severe bruises to the spine...

club travels to Hanover for a
game starting at 9:00... Han-

Wingham downed the lakeside
town 5-2 so the Hanover-Wing-
ham match should be a close
one....Ken Henry of the in-
termediates has decided to
hang up the skates. Coach
Charlie Lee dropped Ken back
to defence on Friday night
after trying him on the forward
line but Ken has decided to
give up playing in favour of
coaching the bantam team

activities.

answer to this 312 game, Larry)
Gee, can't get over the
nice doubles rolled in this
league this week, men's lea-
gue bowlers take note. Mike
White 499, Bill Brown 468,
Bruce Boyd 467, Jim Henderson
434, Ross Caslick 40'7, Rick
Gardner 402.
Some mighty nice singles
too! Bill Brown 312, Mike
White 284, 215, Bruce Boyd
235, 232, Jim Henderson 255,
Ian Shepherd 201 (nice to see
you with a half decent game
again Ian), Rick Gardner 209,
Brian Cronkwright 213, Lee
Grove 239, Ken Rae 226, Ross
Caslick 217 and lo and behold,
no less than three gals with
games over 200, (ladies' league
bowlers take note) Patti King
241 (nice, eh Jean?), Margaret
McLaughlin 226, Ruth Ann
Readman 213, and high double
for the gals Margaret McLaugh-
lin 378 beating Ruth Ann Read-
man by 8 pins -- let's see you
take the double honors next
week Ruth Ann.
JUNIORS
A repeat performance this
week as Steven Watson took
full honors with 271 single
(sure are knocking on that 300
plateau Steve, keep up the
good bowling) and a fine double
423. One other bowler hit the
200 mark as Bradley Simmons
Wingham juniors
spark Listowel's
exhibition win
Listowel Junior "C" Rebels
defeated Detroit Centreline
Tool juveniles by a 7-4 margin
at the Wingham arena on Fri-
day night. Unlike the midget
exhibition game which pre-
ceded it, the players kept
their minds on hockey to give
the fans a good clean game.
Five Wingham players are
members of the Listowel club
and did a fine job before their
hometown fans.
Armstrong broke a scoreless
first period at 15:55 when he
scored unassisted to give Lis-
towel a 1-0 lead. Detroit tied
it 1-1 early in the second, Scott
scoring from Matilla but Lis-
towel pulled out in front again
at 6:15 in a goal by Newbigging
Matilla scored at the 12:00
mark and the second period en
ended with the score tied 2-2.
Detroit pulled ahead 3-2 at
2:55 of the third, Manto beat-
ing Sachs in the Rebels' net.
Then Listowel lowered the
boom and scored three in a
row to gain a 5-3 lead. New-
biggirig from Quinn, Pete Snow
from Tom Deyell, and Helmka
from Scholl were the scoring
combinations.
With a marker at 15:00 of
the period, Detroit looked as
if they could come back as
Stoneburker scored from Bardu-
ca but the Rebels proved too
strong, scoring two more in
less than 30 seconds to wrap up
the game. Arnistrong from
Deyell and Tertipleithan made
it 64 and Schell sailed tinat-
sisted for the final tally,
nity members. He was driven
to Flint, Michigan, where he
was released, not knowing his
whereabouts, with two dollars
in his pocket and left in a
strange country, without funds
for the trip home. He manag-
ed to make it, we understand,
but not until the following Mon-
day.
SPORT SHORTS
Printers must make good
bowlers. George Vanderburgh
of the Goderich Signal-Star
staff, well known to the boys
at the Advance-Times, recent-
ly set a lanes record in Goder-
ich by blistering the pins with
a 424. Come on Fred, try
harder Mait Edgar, former
Wingham hockey player, is
now skating with the Clinton
Colts, At 38, Mait is one of
the older boys still active in
intermediate hockey. Mait
has been in Clinton for the past
sixteen years and is presently
head of the geography depart-
ment at the South Huron Dist-
rict Collegiate.... Six Wing-
ham hockey pucksters are play-
ing with the Listowel Jr. "C"
Rebels and are doing quite well,
Monty Templeman, Bob Arm-
strong, Pete Snow, Ken Taylor,
Bill Kerr and Tom Deyell have
been hitting the score sheet
with regularity and have been
playing together as a line.
The boys played last season
with the Wingham midgets...
The Wingham "180 Sports"
received a helping hand from
the boys at Stone School, who
loaned the intermediates their
sweaters until the new ones
arrived.... Four players were
missing from the line-up in

DRAW HELD
Members of the Ladies'
Curling Club sold tickets on
a decorated Christmas tree,
The draw was made last Friday
by Mrs. R. B. Cousins of Brus-
sels with Murray Rae as the
winner. The ladies are grate-
ful to the many people who
supported this project.
