Detroit defeats Midgets
in penalty riddled game
2,2 after only one minute of
the second. Joe Kerr, who re"
ceived an assist along with Pen
Dubeau, dug the puck out Of
the corner and passed it hack
to Irwin on the point. His hard
shot deflected off a Kincardine
leg to fool the goaltender.
Wingham put the pressure
on, both Kerr and Kennedy
getting goalposts, and finally
Ken Rae put the Wingham lads
in front taking a pass in front
from Rick Kennedy.
Kerr picked up his second Alk)
of the game at 405 of the third
assisted by Dubcau and put the
wraps on the game with the
hat trick at 9:54, firing a
backhand, into the net while all
alone in front.
Kincardine started to get
chippy as the time ran out but
excellant officiating kept the
game in hand. Pearce and
Collins, both experienced
referees, handed out double
minors to two Kincardine play-
ers who tried to turn the game
into a brawl. George and
Doug Skinn, coach and mana-
ger of the team, are to be
commended for keeping the
Wingham boys in check.

The Wingham Midgets
tasted their first defeat of the
season Friday night in their
exhibition match with the Cur-
ran Crane Midgets of Detroit,
Michigan. A total of 28 penal-
ties were handed out during
the game, won by Detroit 3-1.
Wingham's only goal of
the game came at 7:53 of the
third period with the locals
trailing 2-0. Scoring was Joe
Kerr with Bob Corrigan assist-
ing.
The last time Wingham
hosted Detroit, things very
nearly reached the riot stage
but this year's encounter was
not so pugilistic, only ten
roughing penalties and two
five-minute majors for fight-
ing being assessed. It may be
significant that Wingham sat
out a total of 46 minutes in
penalties compared to Detroit':
37.
Bill Skinn, Wingham's net
minder, kept the locals in the
game during the third period
when he was tested time and
again and came through with
some top rate goaltending.
Injured during the game was
Doug Mahood who slid into the
goal post after making an of-
fensive rush. He was examined
by a physician and found to
have bruised the base of his
spine. He returned to watch
the remainder of the game on
crutches.
Manager Doug Skinn said his
team may have been hampered
due to the absence of Paul
Templeman who was missing
with water on the knee, and
Norm MacLennan who had
other obligations Friday night.

day in Teeswater, Wingham

Ailing Midgets
beat Kincardine
Wingham Midgets managed
a 5,2 win over Kinoardine on
Monday night despite being
shorthanded. Kincardine built
up a 2 ,1 lead in the first but
Wingham fought back to gain
a 3-2 edge at the end of the
second frame. Joe Kerr scored
three with singles to Ken Rae
and TOM Irwin.
Joe Kerr put Wingham in the
lead at 12:45 of the first, taking
a pass from Dubeau while all
alone in front. McKenzie of
Kincardine tied the score less
than a minute later with a
rising shot from left wing which
caught the top corner on Skinn's
glove side.
After keeping Wingham in
the game for the next five
minutes, Skinn was finally
beaten again at 17:55 as a Kin-
cardine pass from behind the
net struck a Wingham defenders
leg and bounced into the oppo-
site corner. Skinn kept Kin-
cardine from running away with
the game as he beat McKenzie
on a breakaway, sliding out to
poke the shot when the attack-
er decided to try stickhandling
rather than shooting.
