The Wingham Advance-Times, 1967-12-21, Page 12HURON TEAM WINS — The Lewrason Trophy for the highest team aggregate standing in both butter and cream judg- ing at the annual convention of the On- tario Creamerymen's Association in Tor- onto, was awarded, to a team from Huron County. The group includes, from the left: Arthur Purney, Silverwood Dairies Ltd., Lucknow; Ian Kennedy, Huron Coun- ty fieldman for the Ontario Milk Corn- mission; Lawrie Cousins, Cousins Cream- ery, Brussels, and Clifford Brewer of the l3tuevale Creamery. Members of the team also won individual awards in the cream judging and milk judging competitions and the 'team placed first in the cream judging section. Mrs. Orville Tiffin, who underwent eye surgery at Victoria Hospital, London, was able to return home on Sunday with Joe Tiffin, Orville Tiffin, Joan, Shirley and Joey. She is spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tiffin and family before returning to her home in the village. District firm third for quality buffer At the recent annual con- vention of the Ontario Cream- etymen`s Association it was announced that Cousins Cream- er). of Brussels had been award- ed third prize for the highest quality butter manufactured during 1967, Along with some other competitions the com- bined average placed the Brus- sels firm eleventh for all creameries in Ontario. James Baker, dairy commis- sioner for Ontario, stated that a high standard of efficiency in the plant must be maintained at all times in order for butter- makers to score in combined competitions. Buttermakers in the Cousins Creamery are Lawrie Cousins and Grant Stevenson. Congratulations are extend- ed to the Cousins firm and its staff on achieving this outstand- ing record in a field of produc - tion which is so highly compet- itive. The excellent quality of the Cousins' butter adds to the reputation of the Western Ontario area for high grade dairy products. Our news begins on an un- happy note again, with more sickness and injury making the rounds. Mr. Roy Rutherford is in Wingham and District Hos- pital following a fall at his home on Friday evening of last week. Also hospitalized is Mr. A. Lincoln. Robert Harkness is sporting a cast on his left arm, following a bush accident last week. And the flu bug is still making the rounds, making many people feel very miserable. Let's hope the injured are improved, and the ill well, before Christ- mas comes. We do have some happy news though -- that being that Mrs. John Farrell is now out of traction in Victoria Hospital, and no doubt, resting much Morris Township Council meetings Reeve Stewart Procter pre- sided for the regular meeting of Morris Township Council on December 4, and the final meeting of 1967 on December 15 when road and general ac- counts were passed for payment. Mel Craig was appointed to the Huron-Bruce High School Board and Walter Shortreed to the Seaforth High Sdhool Board for 1968, at the regular council session. A grant of $25.00 was giver. to the Huron County Plowman's Association and $400, 00 was. paid to the Blyth Artificial Ice Fund. Road and general ac- counts were also paid at this meeting. Honored for long service BELGRAVE-- The council and other officials of the Town- ship of East Wawanosh met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Coultes recently in honor of Mr. and. Mrs. Herson Irwin. Herson, who retired this year, served the township as tax collector for more than 20 years. The evening was spent play- ing lost heir and euchre and lunch was served. Reeve Roy Pattison made some fitting re- marks in gratitude for Herson's work over the years, An elect- ric blanket was presented and Herson expressed their apprec- iation. more comfortable. Such happy news has not reached our vill- age in a long while, and though we are sorry that the Farrells cannot be home for Christmas, we know improvement in her condition will be more rapid now and look forward to the time when they can be back with us. Howick Township Council Meeting Howick Council granted permission to trustees of the police village of Gorrie to in- stall one mercury vapor light replacement at regular session December 15. Reeve Harold Robinson chaired the meeting. The report of the Zimmer- man drain, Carrick Township, was accepted on the Howick portion. Council requested the coun- ty solicitor to prepare the tax deed on part of park lot 12, Howick. Road and general accounts were passed for payment, Council disbands Centennial Comm. East Wawanosh Council met December 15 in regular session with the reeve, Roy Pattison presiding and all members pre- sent. A motion was passed that Alex IvicBurney be given S50. for extra work. Mason Robinson met with council to discuss termination of the Centennial. The com- mittee was disbanded and any balance on hand will be trans- ferred to the township's general account. A by-law to set the time and place of the first meeting in 1968 was passed. Road ac- counts amounting to $304.71 and general accounts of S66, - 845,19 were passed.
