A dona- tion was voted to the Children's Memorial Hospital at London. The roll call was answered by an exchange of gifts. The members were divided into groups, each group pro- viding a Christmas program, the leaders being Mrs. George Hetherington, Mrs. Mel Craig, Mrs. Michael Ross and Mrs. W. J. Peacock. Descriptions of traditions and costumes relating to Christ- mas were given by several members, the nativity scene, carolling, the Christmas tree, Santa Claus, candles, holly, wooden shoes, Christmas bells, Christmas rose, the Yule log, the Yew tree, all being includ- ed. Quotations from Scripture and a candle-lighting ceremony were of added interest. Mrs. Carl Johnston led in the singing of Christmas carols including Martin Luther's "Away in a Manger" and "Si- lent Night" about which Mrs. Hetherington gave the story of the origin. Mrs. W. K. Robertson sang "Silver Bells" and "A White Christmas". Christmas goodies were the refreshments provided by the hostess, and Mrs. Wendell Stamper, Mrs. J.C. Johnston and Mrs. Charles Mathers. BLUEVALE A Christmas carolling ser- vice will be given by the choir in the United Church on Satur- day evening at 8 o'clock. A total of 5151 was collect- ed for the Canadian Bible Society in Bluevale and vicin- ity. The officers of the society are president, Mrs. J.J. Elliott; secretary, Miss Emma Johnston; committee, Mrs. Gordon Hall, Mrs. B.H. Moffatt. Mrs. R.J. McMurray of Palmerston, visited friends in the village on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Claire Hoff- man and boys of Exeter, visited Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Hoffman on Sunday. Don McLean, of Toronto, visited Walter Sellers at the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Moffatt of Worsley, Alta,. , are visiting Mr. and Mrs. B.H. Moffatt and other relatives. Mr, and Mrs. Jack Murch of Clinton were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Percy Vin- cent. A Christmas program was enjoyed in Knox Presbyterian Church last Saturday evening when William Elston was chair- man. Songs, recitations and a dialogue were presented. Santa appeared, laden with gifts after which lunch was served. Mr. William Strong return', ed by plane Thursday from a business trip to Halifax. Mr. and Mrs. George Gregg of Willowdale spent the week- end at their home. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Gal- braith, Elizabeth and Judy, visited relatives in Elmira on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs. Maitland Allan of Auburn spent a day with Mr,. and Mrs. Chas. Koch, Mr. and Mrs, Lloyd Woods and family of Kitchener visited Saturday with Mrs. Jas. Shera. Mr, and Mrs. James 'Wright of Wingham spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Finlay, Mrs, Roy Gowdy and Mrs. Har- ry Gowdy visited Mr. and Mrs. Les Earl of Atwood on Wesnes- day. Mr. James Edwards spent a few days in Listowel Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. George Brown visited Mrs. Webster Jacklin of Women's Institute Christmas meeting BELGRAVE-- The Women's Institute held its Christmas meeting in the community rooms on December 12 with Mrs. Stanley Cook presiding. "0 Come All Ye Faithful" was sung and Mrs. Stanley Cook read a poem, "How Is He". Everyone is invited to attend the summary day for "Baking with Yeast" which will be held January 17 at 1 p.m. in Wing- ham Presbyterian Church. Highlight of the January 15 meeting will be a tour through CKNX television studio. All members are asked to be there by 2.15 p.m. Mrs. Walter Scott gave the Christmas message based on the theme "The Angel's First Christmas Message". Roll call was answered by naming a favourite Christmas carol. Mrs. Lawrence Vannan played "Christmas in Killarney" and "Thirty Two Feet and Eight Little Toes". Mrs. Cliff Logan gave a very interesting demonstration on Christmas decorations. Christmas carols were sung. The mental health penny col- lection and regular collection were received. Lunch was served by Mrs. Stewart Procter, Mrs. Leslie Bolt, Mrs. Garner Nicholson and Mrs. George Procter. BELGRAVE Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Den- nis visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coa- tes of Whitechurch spent Sun- day with Mrs. J.M. Coultes. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Rin- tool, Gary, Brian and Gayle of Whitechurch visited with Mrs. Robert Purdon on Sunday. Miss Marian Douglas of Clifford spent the week-end with Miss Mary Ellen Walsh.
