OUR MISTAKE
Our apologies to the Wing-
ham Lions Club. Last week,
while mentioning the midget
team we mistakenly stated
that they were sponsored by the
Legion. Coach Doug Skinn
was quick to correct us
A large crowd is expected at
the arena Friday night for the
exhibition games with Detroit.
Wingham will gain another
good netminder at the first of
the year. Bill Trines of Streets-
ville will be moving to Wing-
ham and is reported to ,be
steady in the nets. Bill is
only 15, midget age, but may
be looking at a junior position.
.George Thomas, manager
of the local Industrial Accep-
tance Corporation office, has
taken on some officiating
duties in local minor hockey.
SKATING AT
THE ARENA
There has been a special
time set aside for parents and
pre-schoolers on Tuesday morn-
ings from 10:00 to 11;30, and
Thursday afternoons from 2:00
to 3:30.
Last week there were only
a few who took advantage of
this and it is hoped that more
will be able to do so. Those
who have been over during
these periods have found lots
of room to teach their young-
sters without worrying about
faster skaters.
SQUIRTS START
HOCKEY SCHEDULE
Two exciting hockey
games were seen at the arena
on Saturday morning as the
squirts took to the ice. The
Rangers downed the Red Wings
4-2 in the opener and Cana-
diens walloped Leafs 4-I in
the second game.
This Saturday Canadiens
meet Rangers at 9;00 a.m. and
the Leafs take on the Red Wings
at 10:00.

BANTAMS
No sooner said than done!
Last week I mentioned that it
would not surprise me if some-
one in this league rolled a 200
game. Well it happened, as
Lynn Foxton rolled a 210. Ter-
rific bowling Lynn, keep no
the good work.
The girls continued to
lead the way as two girls fol-
lowed Lynn's fine bowling with
games over 150. Marlene Fox-
ton rolled 161, and Christine
Rae 152. Jamie Smith came up
with boys' high double 257 with
Jay MacLaurin having 133 high
single for the boys.
Nice to see some new
names hitting the 100 mark;
Cathy Schiestal 134, 102 (I told
you Aunt Joyce, I could so bowl
over 100); Lawrence Norman
113, 107; Jay MacLaurin 111, 133;
Joanne Croskill 121; Christine
Rae 152, 129; Cindy Cook lle;
Laura Saunders 103; Jeff Cros-
kill 101, 101; (see your sister
had a higher single this week
Jeff -- let's change that next
week); Steven Readman 104;
Patricia Wharton 148, 114,
(nice games Patricia); Brian
Gordon 123, 114; Janet Gorrie
113; Marlene Foxton 161, 107 (a
few less headpins in that first
game and Marlene would have
been over 200); Elizabeth Weh-
meyer 122; Patricia Willie 105,
125; Jamie Smith 127, 130;
Lynn Foxton 210, 123.
It is good to see the steady
improvement--just note how
many of these beginners had
both games over 100 -- keep
up the fine bowling gang.
JUNIORS
Well we had one fellow
knocking on that old 300 door-
step as Steven Watson came
through with the high single of
280 -- that's good rolling in
any league. Steven also took
the high double with 429 and
Jeff Lockridge,not too far be-
hind on,two fine games had
219, 180. Nice to see David
Walker hitting the 200 mark
with 203 in his second game.
Julie Foxton, another from the
family of fine bowlers, took
both honors for the girls with
high single 167, double 323.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Casemore 260, Shirley Storey
264 and 252, Ruby McLennan
271, Dorothy Bain 233, Sharon
Skinn 270, Gwen MacLaurin
225.
Shirley Storey had the
high single with a 299 and the
high triple with 815.
The team standings are
really close with only 5 points
between the top and bottom
teams. The girls will really
be fighting for points this week.
The Wheaties have 45, Fluffs
43, Cheerios 42, Muffets 41,
Shreddies 41 and Trix 40.
THURSDAY NIGHT
MIXED LEAGUE
The fight for first place
has turned into a full scale war.
Hilda's Humbugs have made a
fantastic drop while Marilyn's
Maple Buds and Marg:s Mints
are moving up just as rapidly.
Gwen MacLaurin led the way
in the ladies' department, with
a 307 for the high single and a
778 triple to make a clean
sweep. Bill Hotchkiss topped
the men with a 303 single and
a 784 triple.
Here are the standings:
Hilda's Humbugs 51, Marg's
Mints 49, Marilyn's Maple Buds
49, Laura's Secords 44, Gail's
Gum Drops 41.
Many thanks to the spares
last week -- Gloria Thomas,

Cerson, Gary Storey.
INTERMEDIATES
A real battle for the high
single and once again the girls
showed their supremacy as
Barbara Dauphin rolled 275 to
beat the top single for the boys'

here with five hitting over 400
doubles, Bryan Walden 480,
Ken Rae 416, Rickey Gardner
415, Doug Mowbray 413, Barb-
ara Dauphin 409. The girls
were in fine form with three
games over 200, Barb ara Dau-
