Commercially speaking, the

than any other tree.
In spite of wind and sleet
the National Christmas Vesper
Service took place Sunday ev-
ening at seven o'clock in the
Wingham United. Church.
Fifty-two people braved the
storm to form the congregation
and 61 C.G.I.T, members ear-
ried out the service.
This year's service repre-
sented the thinking of girls in
western Canada who participat-
ed in the preparation of the
"conversation'", and prayers
which made this a new and
contemporary worship service.
The organist, Miss Iva Mai
Smith, played a medley of
carols as the CGIT members
processed to their places in the
choir loft and gallery. After
the large central candle was
lit the leader Vicki Rosenhagen,
called the congregation to wor-
ship. Susan Currie was the
leader for all the Scripture
passages.
Five girls took part in the
conversations and commented
on various aspects of Christmas.
These were: Alma Beard, Eliza-
beth Jacklin, Ruth Bennett,
Jeanette Riley and Nancy Guest.
Rev. C. M. Jardine read the
words from the Gospels used as
part of the conversation.
Posters made by the girls help-
ed to carry out their ideas,
Mary and Joseph oh the road to
Bethlehem were portrayed by
Patti Kechnie and Margaret
McLaughlin.
The three CGIT choir sel-
ections were especially delight-
ful this year. They were the
traditional French carol, " Ang-
els We Have Heard on High';
a West Indian Carol, "The
Baby Boy" and a calypso carol,
"The Borning Day". The Grade
group were the ushers for the
service, The offerings receiv-
ed at the vesper service make
:possible the work of the Nation-
al CGIT Committee of the
Canadian Council of Churches.
On Tuesday evening the
CGIT met to make favours
for the Christmas trays at the
hospital and to take their dona-
tions for the Salvation Army
and a girl's home in Toronto.
On December 20 they plan to
join the Inter-Church Commun-
ity Christmas Carol Service. BELGRAVE-- The final
meeting of the U.C.W. for

velopes with donations for
needy children be given the
U.C.W. Christmas Fund. They
decided to give $25.00 to the
choir for purchase of music.
The minutes and corres-
pondence were read. Mrs.
Laura Johnston reported on sup-
