WHITECHURCH-- Calvin-
Brick U.C.W. held a social
evening in the Belgrave United
Church basement on Friday.
Twelve tables of crokinole,
were in play arid prizes for high
scores were won by Brian Jamie-
son taking a lady's place; gen-
tleman, Grant Coulees; girl,
Joyce Taylor; boy Dennis
Thompson. The lucky draw
prize winner was Gilbert Bee-
croft.
The younsters were enter-
tained with games supervised
by Mrs. Dick Moore and Mrs.
Gordon McBurney.
After the crokinole party an
auction sale of aprons, emboid-
ered and knitted articles, bak-
ing, candy, vegetables and
flower slips was held with Law-
erence Taylor weilding the
hammer. There were around
75 present.

GORRIE-- Mr. and Mrs.
Bryan Underwood were honored
at a presentation in the com-
munity hall on Friday evening.
Mrs. Clifton Coulter read the
address and they were present-
ed with a floor polisher and a
gift of money by Murray La-
tronico and Clifton Coulter.
Dancing was enjoyed.
Study book on
Japan introduced
WHITECHURCH-- Last Wed-
nesday afternoon the U.C. W.
held the November meeting at
the home of Mrs. Elwood Gros-
korth, While the ladies were
gathering Mrs. Garnet Farrier
played piano music.
Mrs. Carl Weber gave the
call to worship and led in
prayer. A hymn was sung and
Mrs. Weber gave the medita-
tion and read the poem, "Alph-
abetical Advice".
Mrs. Garnet Farrier led in a
sing-song of choruses. Mrs.
Weber gave a reading, "Mem-
bers of One Body". Mrs. Ezra
Scholtz introduced the new
study book on Japan. She gave
the story of the author's back-
ground and told of chapters to
be studied.
Mrs. Michael Ross, wife of
the student preacher, gave a
talk on "What a Bundle of Con-
tradiction is Man" and also con-
ducted a quiz on Bible quota-
tions. Mrs. Ross closed this
part of the meeting with a
prayer for Remembrance Day.
Mrs. Ezra Scholtz presided
for the business. The roll call
was answered by a verse with
the word friend, and all were
to take a friend. There were
19 present.
Mrs. Carl Weber read the
minutes and Mrs. George
Thompson received the offering.
Mrs. Scholtz gave the courtesy
remarks and closed the meeting
with prayer. The "travelling
basket" made its rounds and
the ladies were reminded that
donations for the bale must be
taken to the December meeting.

Mrs, Robert Ross visited
last week with Mr. and Mrs.

ed on Sunday with Victor Em-
erson at St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, Mr. and Mrs, Sidney
Payne of Toronto were also
visitors there.
Mrs. Angus Falconer of
Streetsville, who on Friday
underwent surgery at the Cooks,-
vine hospital, is doing as well
as can be expected.
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin
and Mrs. Cecil Falconer spent
the week-end at Brantford with
Mr.and Mrs. Jim Henderson.
Mrs. Falconer went from here
to Streetsville.
Mrs. Bill Rintoul, Neil,
Sharon and Doris visited Friday
with Ann and Donna Rintoul of
Kitchener. Donna left Toronto
International Airport at Mahon
on Saturday for a holiday in
Puerto Rico.
Mr, and Mrs. Jim Ross of
Kitchener spent the week-end
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Russel Ross and with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Millen of Tees-
water. Mrs. Ross returned to
teach on Monday but Jim join-
ed some friends from Wingham
to hunt deer in the vicinity of
Wiarton,

onto conducted communion
service at Langside Presbyterian
Church on Sunday and christen-
ed Heather Elaine, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. George Young,
and Deborah Huffman, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Huff-

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Morrison
and Mrs, Victor Emerson were
in. London on Friday. Torn was
at Westminster Hospital for a
check-up and Mrs. Emerson
visited with her husband who
had undergone surgery for re-
moval of gallstones on Thurs-
day.
Mrs, John L. Currie of E,
Wawanosh and Mrs. Dill Lapp
of Wingham visited on Thurs-
day with their mother, Mrs.
Wm. Orr of Langside.
This community extends
sympathy to Mrs. Hugh Hand
and family on the death of Mr.
Hand who died in last week's
tragic accident.
COTTON CUTIES
GORRIE-- The seventh meet-
ing was held at the home of
Mrs. Clarence Stokes, Discus-
sion was on obtaining pictures
for record books. Notes were
on good arrangement for bed-
room and dresser, and colour
distribution.
BEDROOM SUITES
FORDWICH-- The seventh
meeting was held last week at
the home of Mrs. Elmer Hard-
ing. Roll call was answered
by seven members. Marian
Harding read the minutes. Dis-
cussion was on plans for Achiev-
ement Day and then the group
worked on accessories,
BEDROOM BRATS
LAKELET-- The sixth meet-
ing at McCombs had a lull at-
tendance, The minutes were
read arid approved. The roll
call was "Any re-arrangement
in my bedroom" . Everyone
worked on accessories and
lunch was served by Janice.
SEWING SEVEN
PLUS ONE
LIKELET-- The seventh
meeting was held at Mrs. Hohn-
stein's October 30 with six
members present. The minutes
were read by the secretary and
approved, Roll call was "A
new sewing technique I have
learned". The girls worked on
finishing the accessories.
