Each can roll their audiences in the aisles with their comedy - Eve, with her dry sophisticated humor, Kay with her blustery burlesque style. Together, though, they may spell disaster! They are starring together in a new comedy series called "The Mothers-In-Law", stories about two neighbour families, the Hubbards and the Buells. Son of one family marries daughter of the other family, hence mak- ing the mothers 'in-laws' -- each show, of course, revolves around the adventures, squab- 1111111111111111•11111111111111IIIIIIIIIIIIIIK Ile Monday to Thursday at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday — 2 shows at 7:15 and 9:15; Sat. THE WINGHAM SQUIRT ballteam were named WOAA champions last week when Rostock failed to show for the third game of the series on Monday night. The team was treated to hot dogs and cake at the home of their coach, Charlie Lee, and later were thrilled with a ride up the main street on the fire truck, complete with blaring siren. Enjoying themselves at the party in their honor are left to right: John Glousher, Doug VanderWoude, Ricky Jack- lin, Brad Simmons, Mark Tiffin, Roger Tiffin, Tommy Lee, Gerald Skinn, Steve Caslick and Paul Skinn. The idea, to my way of thinking. will play itself out. So far the plots have been for the birds and they will probably get worse before they get better. Both comediennes are accus- tomed to working alone, Eve long being the star of her own series "Our Miss Brooks", and Kay having been a standup comedienne on television and in night clubs for a number of years. Each has received more laughs than you could shake a stick at, and seems to me they are trying a bit too hard in this series, to get the best of each other. It is not Eve Arden's type of role, though she is looking gor- geous and young as ever. Kay is looking like something the cat dragged in, and is trying her best in a role that wasn't meant for her either. She has not yet begun to get a laugh like those she used to hear, and if the shows do not improve, the laughs will get fainter, not louder, 0-0-0 The Men from UNCLE can't seem to escape all the danger! Seems old Illya Kuryakin took himself a wife last week, so will be fighting a new battle now. He and Kathy Carpenter were married in New York; she is the young socialite he has been seeing for some time, in fact, since his separation from his first wife, British actress Jill Ireland. That marriage lasted close to ten years, but flounder- ed when he made it big in Hollywood. Ah well, seems old Illya (David McCallum, in case you'd forgotten) and Na- poleon Solo (Robert Vaughan) each have their share of scars from rough-housing around on the show and playing with that stupid gun, so I guess a few more battle scars won't matter. Speaking of Robert Vaughan, he is now a millionaire! His millions, however, do not come solely from "Man From UNCLE"; he has some Texas oil wells that haven't exactly been sittin' doin' nuthin'. Consider- ing that he's only 35, that's not too bad! He hasn't started act- ing like a wealthy Texan yet. He drives a five-year-old car, and lives in a 30-year-old house. He says he has no de- sire to own a plane, a boat, a train, or a mountain! And though Illya has twice made the leap into the sea of matrimony, Napoleon has never been mar- ried. That million will make the lineup even longer, me's a-thinkin . Rostock concedes With two games under their belt in a best of five series, the Wingham Squirts became the champions of the WOAA circuit on Thursday evening. Their op- ponents in the series, the team from Rostock, were scheduled to play here that evening, but the game was impossible be- cause of an all-day rain. The Rostock management decided that it would be best to concede the game and the series, leav- ing the local players the WOAA championship. This is the fourth straight year in which the Wingham Squirts have emerged as WOAA champions. Our congratula- tions to the boys and their man- agers. Be grave wins Int. series The BelgraVe intermediate men's softball team ousted the Wingham entry on Monday eve- ning, with a 4-1 defeat. It was the fifth game of a best-of-five series to complete the schedtil-, ed games for the 'season: Beigrave will now go on to compete for the intermediate title, but so far the next team on the list is not known. Donnie Murray tossed a three-hitter at Atwood Monday night as the Wingham Pee Wees thumped their hosts 11 to 1 to even their best of five W. O. A. A. finals at one game apiece. Atwood won the opener, 8-'7 in Wingham on Saturday. In Monday's contest Wing- ham went ahead early, scoring one in the first and then the game turned defensive as the score was still 1-0 as the sixth opened. The locals added another in their half of the sixth but their lead was cut to one run again after the bottom half. Wingham players invited to attend Siftos' practice The Goderich Siftos are re- turning to the Junior 'B' Central League this season, after an absence of one year when they competed in Junior 'C' hockey. Other teams in the league will include Owen Sound Greys, Stratford Braves, St. Marys Lincolns, Waterloo Siskins and the Kitchener Greenshirts. The Central League will play an interlocking schedule with the Western Junior 'D' League which includes Sarnia, St. Thomas, Strathroy, Chatham and Leamington. Jack Evans has been named coach of the Siftos. They will open training camp this Sunday, October 1, at 12;00 noon. Workouts will continue each day thereafter at 7:00 p.m. An invitation is extended to all Wingham area junior age hoc- key players to attend the open- ing practices. The game turned wide open in the final frame as Wingham ex- ploded for nine runs and put the game away. Murray struck out nine and walked only three in recording his 21st victory of the year. On- ly two Atwood base runners made it past second base in sev- en innings. Murray also paced the Wing- ham batters with a triple and a pair of singles while Bill Hil- bert slapped out a pair of dou- bles and a single. Bill Brown and Doug Leitch each collected three safeties. Saturday's game was close all the way as Atwood led from start to finish by either one or two runs. D. Strachan led the winners with a double and two singles while Doug Long added a dou- ble and a single. Donnie Mur- ray paced the locals with a two- run homer and a single. Bill Hilbert collected a double and a triple and Bobby LaRose a double and a single. Saturday's Game R H E Atwood 013 020 2 8 9 1 Wingham 002 120 2 7 10 3 Long and Harrow; D. Murray and R. Murray. The high single went to Ross Gordon with 280 and Ken Sax- ton claimed high triple with 768. Three fine games - 260, 254, 254. Over 250 were Ed Rintoul 260, 267; Ken Simmons 251; Andy Henderson 278; Jim Hen- derson 253; Ian MacLaurin 265; Bob Brooks 258. The standing after three nights; Bruins and Canadiensl5; Maple Leafs 12; Black Hawks 9; Rangers and Red Wings 6. 0-0-0 WEDNESDAY NIGHT LADIES' LEAGUE We're off to another season of bowling. The executive de- cided that this year we would use handicaps and according to Dorothy, we have some nice high handicaps for next week so I guess I wasn't the only one who had a rotten night. Hilda Brown came through with her usual good bowling and took the high single with a 253 and the high triple of 654. The points were divided as follows; Fluffs 7; Wheaties 5; Cheerios 5; Shreddies 2; Trix 2; and the Muffets 0. 0-0-0 THURSDAY NIGHT MIXED LEAGUE I don't know if it was the new pins or not, but some members of the Thursday Night Mixed League really started to roll last week. Barry Fry and Ian MacLaurin shared the high single for men with 261. Barry won out for the high triple hon- ors with a 759. Audrey Swat- DRAW A BEAD ON THESE B C D C—C.I.L.
