Ladies' Night was observed
at the monthly supper meeting
of the Howick Lions' Club, held
on Monday evening in the school
room of the Fordwich United
Church. The attendance was
small, with only 35 present.
The banquet began with the
singing of ' 0 Canada"„ and
grace by Rev. Parrott, minister
of the church, Head table
guests were introduced by Presi-
dent Lion George Timm, and
included District governor A-9,
Lion John W. and Mrs. Taylor,
of Alliston, Zone Chairman
Warren and Mrs. Zurbrigg, of
Howick Club, Rev, and Mrs,
Parrott, Miss Erna Betka, and
the president. Club roll call
and introduction of the guests
followed.
Lion Wallace Bilton enter-
tained with several violin selec-
tions, accompanied by Art Gib-
son at the piano. A toast to the
ladies was proposed by Lion El-
mer Farrish, with Mrs. James
Alcorn responding. A novelty
draw was held under the direc-
tion of the Tail Twister Lion
Ken Edgar,
Lion Wray Cooper introduc-
ed the guest speaker, District
Governor Lion John W. Taylor,
a jeweller in Alliston, who has
been a member of its Lions
Club for thirteen years. He
holds a Membership Advance-
ment Key, and has been award-
ed the Melvin Jones Medallion
for membership. He has held
various offices in the club as
well as in the community, and
is at present the town's deputy
reeve,
The District Governor, speak-
ing on "Lionism", stressed co-
operation, enthusiasm and loy-
alty in the club. He told of the
work of Lionism throughout the
world in over 27,000 clubs,
comprised of 800, 000 Lion
members, with 42 new clubs
being formed during the month
of August this year.
He told of the Lions' Inter-
national Convention, held in

Chicago, one of the highlights
of which was the presentation of
the Lions' Peace Essay Award to
a young lad of seventeen, A.
Russell Wodell, of Cranbrook,
B.C. It climaxed a year-long
competition in which more than
one million youths competed.
Following his address, the
District Governor presented two
reels of colored pictures taken
during the convention, which
were accompanied by a most
interesting commentary.
. He was presented with a gift,
expressing the club's apprecia-
tion, by Lion Clair Campbell.
Rev. Parrott spoke a few
words, and the evening was
brought to a close with the
Lions' Roar.
GILES REUNION
LAKELET—The John Giles
family reunion was held Sunday
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Alex Jeffrey at Denfield. At-
tending the reunion were Mr.
and Mrs. Sandy Murray of Clif-
ford, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Giles
of Arkona, Mrs. Wm. Giles of
Lambeth, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle
Murray and family of Clifford,
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Giles and
family of Mildmay, Mr. and
Mrs. Rae Ziegler and family of
Lambeth, Gary Giles and Rose-
mary Bolton of Toronto.

CARTER--To Mr. and Mrs. Ar-
thur Carter (formerly Joyce
Darling), of London, a daugh-
ter, in Victoria Hospital,
London, on September 12th.
The new arrival is a sister for
Douglas.
Members of the Metcalfe
family attended the anniversary
service at Belmore United
Chu.rch, and spent the evening
with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Met-
calfe.
Mr. and Mrs. Willard Haas
of Bridgeport and Mr. and Mrs.
Ken Moody, visited with Mr, and
Mrs. Roy Diefenbaker and Mr.
and Mrs. John Diefenbaker, on
Sunday.
Mrs. William Darling of
Gorrie spent a few days last
week with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce
Darling.
A surprise party was held last
week at the home. of Mr. and
Mrs. T. P. O'Malley on the 2nd
of Culross, when members of
their family, and other rela-
tives gathered to honor them on
the occasion of their 25th wed-
ding anniversary, All the fam-
ily members were present -
Michael from London, Anita
and Joan of Toronto, Mr, and
Mrs. John Strong (Margaret) and
John of Wingham, Dennis of
Tillsonburg, and Dorothy, John,
Bill, Pat, Kevin, Larry and
Paul, all of the 2nd. ,Miss Nor-
ma Haldenby of Holyrood also
attended. They presented their
parents with a chest of silver-
ware, a silver tray and a cup
and saucer. They also receiv-
ed other miscellaneous gifts.

WHITECHURCH—On Thurs-
day afternoon Langside W.M.S.
met at the home of Mrs. Lloyd
Moffat of Lucknow. The pro-
gram, prepared by Mrs. Moffat,
was conducted by the president,
Mrs. Charles Tiffin who gave
the call to worship.
The Scripture was read by
Mrs. Wesley Young. The medi-
tation, "The Art of Forgetting",
was given by Mrs. George
Young. Roll call was answered
by ten members.
The next meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs. George
Young and the program will be
prepared by Mrs. Young and
Mrs. Charles Tiffin.
Mrs. William Orr received
renewals for the Glad Tidings.
Plans for attending a centennial
rally and sectional meeting
were discussed.
Mrs. Donald Huffman gave
a reading, "A Child" and Mrs.
Stewart McGilivary read a
poem, "Begin the Day with
God". A letter was read by
Mrs. Gordon Wall and the meet-
ing closed with prayer,
