Friends of Mrs. Ira McLean will be sorry to learn she is a patient in Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. Mac Allan of San Fran- cisco has joined his wife at their summer home here and have had as their guests, Mr. and Mrs. George Allan and ba- by, David of Sarnia. Mr. Al- lan is teaching at the College of Applied Arts and Technology in Sarnia this term. Week-end guests with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence White were Mr., and Mrs. William Cullen, Laurie, Heather and Corrie of Toronto. Mrs. Margaret Mc- Cabe of New York is also visit- ing at the same home. Rev. and Mrs. Harold Boyd and family of Kenora called on Miss Gertrude Bush and Mrs. W. Weir. Mr. Wm. Higgins has taken a teaching position in Brantford for the coming term. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Clement spent the holiday at their home here. Mr. and Mrs. Hank Barber of London visited Mr. and Mrs. Clarence White on Saturday. The ladies are sisters. Telford Cook dies suddenly BELGRAVB—David Telford Cook of Belgrave died suddenly at Lot 9, Morris Township on Saturday. He was 65. Son of the late David Cook and his wife Rebecca Harrison, he was born in East Wawanosh Township and attended school at S. S. No. 13. He became a farmer, which was his life-long occupation. On October 23, 1926 he mar- ried Bertha Julia Cooper in Lon- don, who survives. He was a member of Knox United Church in Belgrave. He is also survived by broth- ers Fred of Belgrave, Leonard of Blyth and Harry of East Wawan- osh; and two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Edna) Cook of Westfield and Mrs. George (Ivy) Cook of Bel- grave. He was predeceased by a brother Alfred and two sisters, Mrs. James (Stella) Kelly and Mrs, Albert (Violet) Nethery. Fuheral service was held at the S. J. Walker funeral home in Wingham on Tuesday after, noon. Rey. John Roberts and Rev. H. C, Wilson officiated. Interment was in Brandon Certie- tery. Pallbearers were Stanley Black, Clarence Rath, Walter Scott, Lewis Cook, Harold Walsh and Albert Cook and the flower bearers were Eldon and Harvey Cook and Harold Sles4 so r, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Sander- son, accompanied by their son- in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Mclntee of Toronto have returned from an enjoy- able trip to the West Coast. Mrs. Sanderson visited her sis- ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jas, Sanderson at Rosetown while the others went on to the coast. Mrs. Del Roth of Harriston called on Miss Hazel Sparling on Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Blair Sharp, John, Tom, Dave and Sandra of Spartan Village, East Lan- sing, Michigan, spent the holi- day week-end with Mrs. Sharp's father, Mr. John Hupfer. Mrs. George Griffith is ac- companying her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wal- lace Nixon and Howard of Camp Borden on a trip West where they will visit Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nixon at Winnipeg, Mr. and Mrs. James Sanderson at Rosetown, Sask., and other friends. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Clarke and family who have been re- siding in one of Miss Hazel Sparling's apartments for the past three months, have moved into their newly renovated home in Gorrie which was gut- ted by fire in the late spring. Mr. Stephen Wheeler of Tor- onto is spending a few days at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Wheeler. C. Fingland pays tribute to the Hulleff pioneers AUBURN—A high tribute was paid to the early pioneers of this district by Mr. Colin Fing- land, Wingham, the guest speaker at the annual Hope Chapel cemetery service held last Sunday. Nearly 100 des- cendants and friends gathered to honor those who had labored on this earth. Mr. Fingland spoke on the text, "What mean ye by these stones?", which was the ques- tion asked about the memorial placed by the Children of Israel when they entered the promised land. He spoke of the hardships of the early settlers in HulIett Township and stated that they were great men and women of faith, full of courage and not afraid to sacrifice, but wor- shipped God and they have pass- ed the torch on to succeeding generations. In closing he ask- ed if these memorials meant what they should and urged all to do their duty as faithfully as the early pioneers to help build the Kingdom of God. The choir was led by the or- ganist, Mrs. Elgin Josling arid the offering was received by Kenneth Hunking. Wi R.
