WATCH Repairing Business and Professional Directory ,gp Keith McClure Well, it can be pretty discouraging to a non-screaming type auto dealer operating in a market where "price" ad- vertisements are making claims he knows cannot be backed up One disadvantage of NOT shouting about low prices is that a dealer is liable to ,get the reputation of being high priced, though his net prices may well be in effect lower than competitive dealers. The problem i chat when a reputable dealer does ad- vertise price, the price is an honest one that takes into ac- count adequate pre-delivery service on new cars, future policy adjustment, original equipment and provision for full warranty service. If a dealer has to make up his profit somewhere else along the line to make tip for a seemingly low selling price, the customer is going to be the loser. No dealer tan afford to stay in business if he does not make a profit. If the buyer wants good value for his money can Obviously get that better from a dealer who makes an adeqUate profit in a legitimate manner rather than from one Who gives it away with one hand while taking it back with the other. Reputable au dealing, for obvious reasons, doesn t lend itself to sensational but ficticlous price ads that the dealer's salesmen will only use as a starting point in the bargaining. But while misrepresentation may take care of the re- sent, it has one great weakness—it makes no provision for the future,
