funeral Tuesday
Funeral service was held in
the Moir funeral home in Gor+-
rie on Tuesday afternoon for
Robert Carl Douglas of Belmore
with burial in Wroxeter Ceme-
tery.
Rev. Rea Grant of Belmore
officiated and the pallbearers
were Clare Ball, Murray Mc-
Dowell, Fred Doubledee, Har-
i? Miller, Alex Graham and
ck Holland. The flower
bearers were Nelson Hunkin,
Harold Finlay, Jack Fitch,
Stewart Mulvey and Norman
Newans,
Mr. Douglas, 55, died Sun-
day in Wingham and District
Hospital following a long ill-
ness.
He was the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Douglas and
was born in Howick Township.
He farmed in Howick and was a
member of the Belmore United
Church and took an active part
in church activities. He belong-
ed to The Harmony Men of
Wingham.
His wife, the former Marie
King, and a son, Wayne Doug-
las survive. There are also two
sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Florence)
Purdon and Mrs. Hazel Tuck,
both of Wingham.

R.W.N. Wade was
local historian
Robert William Norman
Wade, 82, died at his home in
Gorrie on Sunday, August 13.
Mr. Wade had been working
about his home and had been to
the business section of the vil-
lage on Saturday.
He was the son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Wade and
was born in Howick, October
18, 1884. lie married Sara
Simson and on September 17,
1966 they celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary. The
couple farmed in Howick Town-
ship and retired to Gorrie in
1945.
Mr. Wade was in the gener-
al insurance business for over
40 years. He had been a Jus-
tice of the Peace, was active in
the Loyal Orange Lodge, the
Red Cross, and the Business
Men's Association.
Mr. Wade was also interest-
ed in local history and wrote a
history of Howick Township a
few years ago.
He is survived by his wife, a
son Robert of Pointe Claire,
Que., and three grandchildren;
two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Jen-
nie) Miles and Mrs. David
(Laura) Dane, both of Scarbor-
ough.
Rev. Harold D. Jenkins con-
ducted funeral service in St.
Stephen's Anglican Church, Gor-
rie on Tuesday afternoon with
interment in Gorrie Cemetery.
The body rested at the Moir
funeral home until Tuesday.
Pallbearers were William
McElwaine, William Felker,
Kenneth Graham, William Wil-
son, Elmer Farrish and Mal-
colm Inglis. The flower bear-
ers were Whitney Dane, Ronald
Miles, William Smythe and
Charles Austerberry.

denly on his parents' farm, Cul-
toss Township, as the result of
a tractor mishap on August 6,
He was born in Culross Town"
ship on August 1, 1949. Sur,-
viving are his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. David E. King and a twin
sister, Pamela, at home. He
was predeceased by a brother,
Clair in 1964.
The body rested at the fam-
ily residence, Gulross Township,
until Friday morning when
Solemn Requiem Mass was sung
at Sacred Heart Roman Cath-
olic Church, Teeswater. Rev.
Father F. J. Swaine officiated.
Burial was in Sacred Heart
Cemetery, Teeswater.
The pallbearers were Trino
Casagrande, Jim• McKee, Gar-
ry Falconer, Kenneth Walters,
Jim McKinnon and Tom Ed-
wards. Flowers were carried by
John and Eddie King.

day evening a reception and
dance were held in the com-
munity hall for Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Ross, newlyweds. Music
for dancing was supplied by
Tiffin's orchestra.
Lunch was served and Mr.

the platform while Alex Craig
read an address and Leroy Rin-
toul presented them with a gift

Mrs. J. E. Dawson
dies in Hanover
Funeral service was held in
St. James' Anglican Church,
Hanover on July 31 for Mrs, J.
Edward Dawson, with interment
in Wingham Cemetery. Mrs,
Dawson died in Hanover me.

The former Ethel Finley,
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. George Arthur Finley, was
born at Glen. Cove, Long Island,
N.Y., and came to the Wing-
ham area at the age of 12. She
married Mr. Dawson at Blue-
vale on September 29, 1919.
She is survived by her hus-
band; sons, Lloyd of Guelph and
Neil at home; a daughter, Mrs.
Carl (Grace) Ford of Toronto;
four grandchildren and two great
grandchildren. There are two
brothers, George Finley of
Wingham and Henry Finley of
Port Arthur.
She was predeceased by a
daughter, Mrs. A. Archibald
(Ethel Pearl) Edgar of Gorrie,
one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Dawson was a member
of St. James' Anglican Church,
Hanover, and of the Women's
Auxiliary of the church.
Mrs. Eva Lee and daughter
of Long Beach, Cal. , visited
her sister, Mrs. Gordon Gibson
and her brother, Cecil Cooper
of Fordwich, and other rela-
tives in London during the past
week.
Rev, and Mrs. Stewart Mac-
Tavish and son Jim, of Soviern,
Sask., visited Mr. and Mrs.
Alex MacTavish and also call-
ed on other relatives in this
district recently.

spending his vacation at his

Wednesday with her sister and
family, Mrs. Walter Eaton, in

William Reginald Burchill,
of R. R. 3, Wingham, died Sun-
day, August 6, at Wingham and
District Hospital. He had been
ill for four months.
He was a son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Burchill of
Turnberry Township and had re-
sided in this district all his life.
His wife, the former Hanna
May Walker, died February 3,
1944. He was also predeceased
by a son Herbert.
Surviving are two sons, Roy
of Goderich and Robert ofWing-
ham; three daughters, Mrs.
James (Mary) McGladery of Fer-
gus, Mrs. Earl (Margaret) Weitz,
of Walkerton, and Mrs. Robert
(Lois) Kerr of Orillia, and one
brother, John of Wingham.
There are 22 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held
August 8, on which Mr. Bur-
chill would have celebrated his
81st birthday. Rev. Donald
Sinclair conducted the service
at the R. A. Currie & Son fun-
eral home.
Pallbearers were James E.
Currie, James H. Currie, Ken-
neth Currie, Jack Currie, James
Wilson and Robert Allan. Flow-
er bearers were Fo'ster Marshall
and Gershom Johnston.
Burial was in Wingham Cem-
etery.

Harold Dawson, 21
dies in.hospital
Funeral service was held at
the R. A. Currie & Son funeral
home August 3 for Harold Er-
nest Dawson of R.R. 3 Wing-
ham. Rev. John G. Roberts
conducted the service and in-
terment in Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Robin-
son, Jim Taylor, Wayne Coul-
tes, Jack Marks, Gary Reavie
and Neil Rintoul and flower
bearers were John Jamieson and
Elgin Hogg..
Death occurred July 31 in
St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener,
after a long illness.
A native of East Wawanosh
Township, Mr. Dawson was
born 21 years ago. He was the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Daw-
son. He attended S.S. No. 9
East Wawanosh and Wingham
District High School, and then
became a welder, Ele was a •
member of Calvin-Brick United
Church and of the Canadian Or-
der of Foresters.
Surviving besides his parents
are sisters, ivIrs. Alex (Jean)
Nethery of R.R. 4 Brussels, Mrs.
Mervin (Mae) Ritchie of myth,
Mrs. Douglas (Florence) Mach-
an of R. R, 5 Brussels, and broth-
ers, Roy of R.R. 3 Wingham
and Murray Dawson at home.
He was predeceased by a sis-
ter Lois in 1950, who lost her
life at the age of 14, while sav-
ing a friend from drowning.

James N. Allen
Funeral service was held
from the D. A, Rann funeral
home, Brussels, on August '7th,
with the Rev. Dr. George Goth,
London, in Charge. The late
Mr. Allen died on Friday, Aug-
ust 4th at Huronview, Clinton.
Interment was made in the
family plot, Wroxeter Ceme-
tery. Pallbearers were Cam
Nelson, William King Sr., Art
Gibson, Gordon Gibson, How-
ard Wylie and James Doig.
A native of Wroxeter, he was
the husband of the late Laura
Brawn. Surviving are a son,
Harry 13. Allen, London; one
grandson, Dr. James R. Allen,
Palo Alto, California; three
granddaughters, Mrs, Robert
(Marjorie) Armour, Don Mills,
Ontario; Mrs. William (Heath-
er) Goth, London; Mrs. George
(Barbara) Clarkson, Sherbrooke,
Quebec; five great-grandchild-
ren and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Car-
ter of Bateman, Sask. A son
James J. Allen predeceased
him in 1942.
The late Mr. Allen was a
:;,druggist,and conducted a.suc-.
cessful business in Wroxeter for
over fifty years. During the
years he won the admiration
and respect of all who knew
him. He attended the United
Church and gave support to
every worthwhile project.
Upon retirement he lived
part of the year with his son
Harry in London, returning to
Wroxeter for the summer months.
Three years ago he celebrated
his 90th birthday at which time
a reception was held at the
home of his daughter-in-law,
Mrs. Robert Montgomery,
which gave opportunity for
many friends to call and renew
old friendships.
Mr. Allen's memory will be
cherished for a very long time
by residents of Wroxeter and the
surrounding countryside.
