GAT YOUR t
IN SHAPE FOR
SUMMER DRIVING
Keith McClure
Summer driving makes greater demands on your car
with longer trips, more high speed driving and higher op-
erating temperatures. Winter coolants and lubricants should
be replaced with Summer grades.
A check of the cooling system should cover the therm.
stat, radiator pressure cap, all hoses and the fan belt. The
antifreeze should be checked for rust. If the drainings are
cloudy, the system should be cleaned with a radiator cleaner.
If you have an air conditioner, antifreeze should be
Used in the radiator year round, so it would be best to add
fresh antifreeze to your radiator,
If your car is equipped with automatic transmission, it
is vital that the radiator function properly. The fluid for
most automatic transmissions is cooled in the lower part of
the radiator. If your radiator overheats your transmission
follows suit.
Have your oil and oil filter changed to lightweight
Summer oil. Even if a tune-up is not required, it's a good
idea to have the automatic choke and accelerator pump rod
checked. They may have been adjusted to a richer setting
for easier Whiter starting,
These items plus clean battery connections, fan belts
with the proper tension and a check of the tires should
assure you of a trouble-free Summer.
