The Wingham Advance-Times, 1967-07-13, Page 6NOTICE TO CREDITORS CARDS OF THANKS REAL ESTATE FOR SALE FOR SALE LEGAL Page 0 me Wingham AdVailleO.Tirne$, ThUrKlAY, July 13., 100 7 eeer—e-e • 0.P 4,0'070 47 3.44.14ct IS YOUR CAR DUE FOR A TUNE-UP? Keith McClure Did you ever use an ordinary lead pencil 'way beyond the point at which it should be sharpened? Then you know it writes poorly, less legibly, and eventually ceases to write at all. Roughly speaking, much the same thing happens to a car engine that has worn itself out of adjustment. Like the pencil it needs "resharpening." In only one mile, for instance, a spark plug fires a thousand times and each pair of valves opens and closes with each firing. The distributor points open and close 8,000 times and the fuel pump pumps a thousand times a minute. An average dozen carburetor parts are activated with each gas pedal movement. And all of these movements cause wear. Five thousand miles after a tune-up your engine has lost considerable power and economy, though you may not notice it since you have been getting used to the decline gradually. But there Is no reason why a 30,000 mile engine should not function with new efficiency providing these' wear tolerances are properly adjusted. Now is a good time to repair the ravages of winter driv- ing in Wingham. The intake of fuel and air in the carbur- etor must be rebalanced, the ignition re-timed to compensate for lost compression and the spark plugs cleaned and re- placed, along with other adjustments. The money spent will come back to you in longer engine life, fuel economy and new-car performance you may have got used to doing without.
