1st, at 8:30 p.m., CBC Tele-
vision will present "The Spirit
of '67" - a 90-minute special
which shows Canada's 100 years
with the help of films, photo-
graphs, voice recordings,
graphics, live sketches, acts,
music and comedy routines.
Host of the show will be Percy
Saltzman; producer is Bill Da-
vis who says of the show,"...
It will run interrupted for 90
minutes. We'll try to cover
everything that's happened ov-
er the past 100 years. Wow!
It's like trying to stuff a can-
nonball into a pistol."
Noting that one year's hap-
penings must be crammed into
less than a minute, his state--
ment is more or less true. There
will be songs and skits by such
well-known performers as Tom-
my Ambrose, Edmonton folk-
singer Laurel Ward, the Bras-
sard Family from Montreal, and
comedian Don Harron, Other
Canadian and American stars
will wish Canada a Happy
Birthday via film. There will
also be a look at Canada at
war; her achievements in sports;
a look at the arts; segments
showing Canada's 14 prime
ministers; the major cities of
Canada, as they were '70-100
years ago and as they are to-
day; and an informal moment
with the Queen as she talks
with children on Parliament
Hill.
The show was written by
Frank Peppiatt and John Ayles-
worth, two Canadian writers
who have become important
property south of the border.
They write some of the most
successful variety shows onU. S.
television, so the writing on
Fordwich, Elora, Stratford and
Kitchener. They also received
a telegram from Mr. and Mrs.
Don Schaefer at Montreal.
Mrs. Helen Thomson of Al-
bany, New York, visited last
week with her father, Mr. Mor-
ley Aylesworth.

PeeWees first in
league standing
The Wingham Pee Wees
clobbered Brussels last Thursday
by a 30-0 score to record their
fourth consecutive victory. The
win put Wingham in first place
in the league standings with a
4-0 won-lost record.
Donnie Murray paced Wing-
ham's 25-hit attack with two
singles, a double, triple and a
home run. Ronnie Murray con-
nected for a single, two doubles
and a triple, Doug Leitch,
Bruce Skinn and Steve Tiffin
each collected three hits during
the rout,
Donnie held Brussels score-
less on a one hitter. The lone
Brussels hit came with two out
in the last inning, a single by
Chris Exel. Donnie went the
distance striking out eleven and
yielding only one walk.
Donnie's five hits put him in
first place in team batting with
13 hits in 20 at bats for a .650
batting average. Tom Lee is
second with .556 on 10 hits and
18 at bat.

Cerson'S Cuties
win and lose
The girls came through with
another win Monday night when
they defeated Mt. Forest 14-11.
They were missing the regular
catcher and first baseman who
were at Expo, but you can al-
ways rely on the Willie gals to
play any place. The new gal,
Dianne Warner, took over the
catching and it appears that
she's played some ball before.
The Wednesday night game
in Mt. Forest was postponed on
account of rain. Thanks to
Doug Aitcheson for taking over
the coaching job while the
coach was at Expo,
LOSE TO CARGILL
The girls were up against a
real team Monday evening with
Cargill. Wingham lost to Car-
gill 13-8.
Pat Zurbrigg was the hitter
for the game, even if she could
not hang onto that ball. It's
too bad the second baseman is
nervous with her Dad around.
The girls were really hitting
after Smooch came. What hap-
pened in the first inning gals?
The games will be in Chet,
ley Wednesday at 8.30; Car-
gill, Thursday at I p.m ; and
don't forget our big game on.
