The Wingham Advance-Times, 1967-06-29, Page 22Scouts and leaders from all points in the Saugeen District will gather at Walkerton agri- cultural park at seven o'clock Friday morning. At eight, the buses, trucks and station wag- ons which will make up the Centennial cavalcade will leave on the first leg of the three- week trip to Eastern Canada. It is expected that approx- imately 150 boys and about 50 leaders will make up the tour party. The first day's travel will take them 350 miles to Ottawa, where they will spend the night at the Connaught Ranges and on Saturday will be on hand for the memorable cel- ebration to mark the nation's 100th birthday. On Sunday morning they will attend church in Ottawa and travel on to Montreal. The U.C.W. packed two bales of clothing and quilts on Wednesday afternoon, one for overseas and one for the north. Mr. Winston Martin of St. Jacobs, who at- tended Toronto Bible College, will preach throughout July. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Thomp- son and family visited for a few days the first of the week with Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Siebert of Kingston. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tiffin and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tif- fin were in London on Friday, at St. Joseph's Hospital, where Charles received treatment. We are sorry to report Mrs. Jack Morrison underwent surg- ery in Wingham and District Hospital the end of the week. The community wishes her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Duncan MacDonald spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Angus MacDonald and family of St. Helens. All girls 12 years and over who intend to attend the 4-H club, "Working with Wool", this fall are to phone the Wom- en's Institute president, Mrs. Bill Evans, so that she can en- ter their names. Word has been received that the McInnes-Falconer centen- nial picnic is being held at Gorrie Park, July 1st, in the afternoon. Miss Edna Wall began work at London Life, London, on Monday. Donald Gaunt and Gordon Moffat of Toronto returned home on Sunday from a trip to Expo. Rev. A.E. Willis is now retired ST. HELENS--On Sunday morning Rev. A. E. Willis preached his farewell service in St. Helens United Church. At the conclusion, Ross Errington addressed Mr. and Mrs. Willis and two occasional chairs were presented by Don Cameron and Allan Miller, on behalf of the congregation. This week the Willis family will move to Angus, where Mr. Willis will retire from the min- istry. A noon luncheon was served to the congregation after the presentation. Life Underwriters entertain wives Members of Saugeen Life Underwriters and their wives met at Pike Lake Lodge on June 21. Members were present from Durham, Hanover, Wal- kerton, Chepstow, Lucknow and "Wingham. Business was kept to a mini- mum and an afternoon and eve- ning of recreation as well as a luxurious dinner was enjoyed by all who attended. Among business items, a re, port was given regarding mem- bers who had recently complet- ed the Life Underwriters train- ing course. Fred Nicholls of Wingham was one of three to pass the first year examinations4 We are happy to report Mr, Don Martin was discharpd on Thursday from Wingham and District Hospital. Mr, Jim. Orr of London spent the week-end with his mother, Mrs. Wm. Orr and Sob, and at- tended anniversary service at Langside Church on Sunday. Misses Barbara Purdon and Wendy Reynolds on Friday went to Paynton House Lodge, Port Carling, where they are em- ployed for the summer months. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Schwichtenberg, Lori Jane and Kerry of Port Elgin were Sun- day visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coultes. Diane Coultes returned home with them for a few holidays. Langside Presbyterian Church, decorated with bou- quets of flowers, held their an- niversary services on Sunday at 11,00 a.m. and 8 p.m. The choir sang anthems at both services and the guest speaker, Rev. James Weir of Kincardine, gave inspiring messages. If you haven't noticed the historic site plaque in front of Bill Evan's property, do so. It is ex- pected that Walkerton will be invaded on Friday morning by a sizeable contingent of parents bidding a fond farewell to their Scouting sons. CAPTAIN AND MRS. Albert Ferris, station- ed at the Edward Street Citadel of the Sal- vation Army for the past three years, were honored by their many friends in the com- munity on Sunday evening following the service at the Citadel, prior to their depar- ture for their new post in British Colum- bia.
