Lawn bowling club will welcome all new members Interclub jitneys are held on Lucknow, Teeswater and Wing- ham greens with these clubs taking t.urns as hosts. The games will begin on the Wing- ham greens on Thursday eve- ning, June 19th. To those who have never enjoyed lawn bowl- ing and do not understand it, it can be described as similar to curling, however, the target is a moveable jack whereas the target area in curling (called the house) is a frozen target. In lawn bowling the jack may be moved to different places on the green and the ends are play- ed short, medium, long and of- ten off-side so that the shots vary and this keeps the game interesting and challenging. Most towns could do with more friendliness and good fel- lowship and it is hoped that this Centennial year that the Wing- ham Lawn Bowling Club will do much to add to these in this community. Anyone who is interested will be welcome to join and many members would be pleased to share their bowls with guests who would like to come to the greens and try the game before committing them- selves to joining. Last Saturday evening fol- lowing the evening game, El- wood Webster showed a film of lawn bowling games played in Lakeland, Florida where he and Mrs. Webster stayed last win- ter and where Mr, Webster won the singles championship tour- nament. The chosen representa- tives will be from England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Unit- ed States and Canada and the contestants will receive special centennial medals. Gold med- als will go to the winners, sil- ver and bronze to those placing second and third and a special centennial trophy will be pre- sented to the country whose players score the most points in the singles and pairs. Lawn bowling is one of the most pleasant of the participat- ing sports Wingham has to offer. The greens here are kept in fine condition and the club of- fers special reductions in mem- bership fees for first-year bowl- ers.
