T. annual mother and daughter banquet was held last Wednes- day in the church school room which was beautifully decorat- ed with blue and white stream- ers and bells. The main wall was decorated with a gold cen- tennial crest, and flowers were placed on the tables. A toast to the Queen was giv- en followed by singing "God Save the Queen". Rev. Hugh Wilson said grace. Linda Mc- Gee proposed the toast to the church and Mr. Wilson replied. The toast to the mothers was given by Joyce Coultes and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor replied. Mrs. Ken Wheeler proposed the toast to the daughters and the girls replied by singing the C.G.I.T. hymn. Pianist for the evening was Rhonda Fear. A turkey banquet was enjoy- ed after which Audrey Coultes, president, thanked the ladies who catered. Linda McGee and Joyce Coultes, accompanied by Mrs. McGee, sang a medley of old-time tunes and Joyce danc- ed the charleston. Marjorie Procter thanked Mrs. Donald Dow, who is leav- ing the group, for her leader- ship during the past year. Marion McGee introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Orval Struthers of Mitchell, who ap- peared in centennial dress and gave a talk on her life. She challenged the girls to be them- selves. Ruth Ann Pletch thank- ed the speaker and presented her with a gift. Mrs. Ted Fear, superintend- ent, thanked Mrs. John Gnay and Mrs. Donald Dow for their leadership and the girls for their co-operation during the past years One girl, Audrey Coul- tes, graduated this year, and Mrs. Pear spoke of the work done by Audrey and presented her with a gift on behalf of the group. The president opened the meet- ing with an inspirational poem, "He Was One of Us", and the hymn "Jesus Shall Reign Where'- er the Sun" was sung. The Scripture lesson, was read in unison, followed by prayer. The topic for the meeting, "The Church in Early Canada", was taken by Mrs. Harvey Bal- lagh, assisted by several other ladies. It was a very interest- ing topic and a lively discus- sion period followed. During the business the min- utes were read by Mrs. Donald MacAdam and the roll call fol- lowed. From the suggestions brought forth in the roll call, it was decided to visit the Car- rick Camp Meeting in June. Offering was taken and some correspondence was acknowledg- ed. A flower committee was named, Mrs. Bruce Darling for the latter part of May and Mrs. Arnold Jeffray and Mrs. Mac- Adam for June. The meeting closed with the hymn "Go, Labour On" and Miss Edith Stokes closed with prayer. The hostess served lunch follow- ing the meeting. Gorrie downs Walton 4-3 GORRIE-In Tri-County In- termediate Softball Walton played at Gorrie on Monday evening with Gorrie downing Walton 4-3. Don Whitfield, Ron Elliott, Ed Daer and Sandy Gibson scor- ed the Gorrie runs. Walton runners were Brian Travis, Ter- ry Smith, G. (Buck) Smith. Ed Daer and Terry Smith were the Gorrie and Walton pit- chers. Brian Elliott was Gor- rie' s catcher. The next game will be to- night, June 1, when Brussels will be in Gorrie. Friendship Unit holds meeting WROXETER-The Friendship Unit of the Wroxeter U.C.W. held its May meeting in the basement of the church.Twelve members answered the roll call. "The call to discipleship and worship" was the theme for the Meeting. Bible verses related to this theme were read by sev- eral members, and the com- mentary was read by Mrs. Coul- ter. The third chapter of the study book, "The Church in Ontario", was discussed by Mrs. M. Weaning. The devotional part of the meeting was closed with the Lord's prayer. The president, Mrs. A. Mil- ler, conducted the business, and closed with a poem and the benediction. Lunch was served by those in charge, Mrs. Wear- ring and Mrs. Coulter. HELENS-Ivan McQuil- lin of Kitchener was among the University of Waterloo gradu- ates on Saturday. He received his Bachelor of Science degree. Ivan will continue work at Naugatuck Chemical Plant in Elmira as a chemist now. Mr. and Mrs. Fred McQuil- lin attended the graduation and spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan McQuillin in Kit- chener. A $1,000 C1-1QUE was presented to the Centennial Pool Fund on Monday evening when Kinsmen President Daw- son Pollock turned over the cheque to Harry West, finance chairman of the pool campaign, The $1,000 is the first installment of a $5,000 pledge which the local Kinsmen Club has made to the pool fund. The club will be mak- ing every effort to raise the remainder as quickly as pos- sible.
