Centennial theme
for WI meeting.
13ELMORE—The February
Meeting of the Women's
tute, with the topic "Citizen-
ship and. Education", was held
in the Institute Hall on Wednes-
day afternoon of last week.
Mrs. Alvin Mundell was the
convener. The meeting Was
held in the form of a birthday
party, as February is the month
of the 70th birthday of the
Women's Institute. Several
visitors were present.
Special contests for centen-
nial year were conducted by
Mrs. Mundell. Miss Beth Mun-
dell played a piano solo. The
hall was specially decorated for
centennial year by Mrs. Ma-
belle Goldrich. A trio com-
prised of Mrs. Glenn Appleby,
Mrs. Bruce Darling and Mrs.
Mundell sang a special number.
The roll call was "a memen-

BELGRAVE—Mrs. Lewis
Stonehouse was hostess for the
February meeting of the eve-
ning unit of the LI,C,W, ather
home, There were 20 present,
Mrs. Clarence White was in
charge of the worship. The
opening hymn and prayer were
followed by Scripture reading
by Mrs. George Michie. While
the offering was being received
Mrs. White gave a reading.
Mrs. William Coultes con-
ducted the business. Minutes
were read by Mrs. Jack Higgins
the penny collection was re-
ceived and visits to the sick and
shut-ins recorded. Mrs. Coul-
tes thanked the members for
their help with the catering for
a recent banquet. Mention was
made of the Hobby Carnival to
be held in May,. The Presby-
terial at Wingham was announc-
ed for February 21,, the speaker
to be Rev. Gordon Hunter, Mrs.
William Coultes and Mrs. Not..

attend, Bach member is asked
to take one article for a talent
sale at the next Meeting, the
money to be used for a centen-
nial project.
Mrs. Jack Higgins will be
hostess for the meeting on
March 2 with Miss Annie Cook
in charge of Bible study; mis-
sion study, mrs. Cliff Logan;
worship, Mrs. Murray Scott;
lunch, Mrs. Clarence White.
Mrs. Murray Scott gave a
condensed version of the chap-
ter on "Growth of the Protestant
Church in Canada" as the mis-
sion study. The Bible study
from God and His Purpose was
taken by Mrs. Cliff Logan from
the chapter, "We Depend on
Power Beyond Ourselves".
Mrs. Coultes said the bene-
to of your school days", Mrs.
Glenn Appleby was in charge of
the Motto, "Success comes in
cans, not can't's", She stated,
"The difference between can
and can't is often faith, hope
and love", and said that some ,
times we do not want to put ex-,
tra effort into doing something
worthwhile, A history of the
100.31 W.I. branch, which had
been compiled by Mrs. Elmer
Zinn, was given.
Mrs. Jean Whitby of Luck-
now, president of Bruce South
District, gave a talk on being
good Institute members. Bruce
South has won the trophy each
year but one, for good parlia-
mentary procedure, submitting
reports on time, etc, Mrs. V.
Emerson of Whitechurch extend-
ed greetings from that W.I.
Lunch was served by the
hostesses, Mrs. D, Eadie, Mrs.
Mundell and Mrs. Appleby,
Among the delicacies enjoyed
was a birthday cake in honor of
the special occasion,
Belmore
Pupils at 13eltnore School en-
joyed a Valentine skating party
in the arena on Friday after-
noon, Following some fun on
the ice, they returned to the
school where lunch was served
and Valentines exchanged.
Teacher at the school is Mrs.
Gordon Donaldson of Teeswa-
ter.
A large crowd attended the
benefit dance, held on Friday
night in the hall, for Mr. and
Mrs, Graham Wright of Lakelet
who recently lost their home by
fire.
Sympathy is extended to the
Darling family, on the death of
their mother, Mrs. Adam Dar-
ling, of Carrick Township. Mrs.
Darling passed away on Friday
morning in Wingham and Dist-
rict Hospital. She is survived
by three sons, Thomas and Al-
an of Carrick Township, and.

daughters, Mrs. John (Margaret)

SAUSAGE 'N' SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE
4 medium-sized sweet 6 slices canned pineapple,
potatoes halved
2 tbSpa, melted butter 1/3 cup brown sugar
or margarine Few grains nutmeg or
Salt and pePper cinnamon
1 lb. fresh pork sausages 1/3 cup syrup from
canned pineapple
Cook potatoes in boiling water until tender. Drain, cool
slightly, peel and slice. Arrange in battered 8x12" baking
dish, Brush with Melted butter, season with salt and
pepper, Meanwhile, fry sausages over moderate heat until
almost cooked and lightly browned. Drain on absorbent
paper. Saute pineapple in frying pan until lightly browned.
Place partially cooked sausages over the sweet potato
slices. Arrange sauteed pineapple around the sausages.
Sprinkle With brown sugar, nutmeg and ciimanion. Add
pineapple syrup. Bake in preheated 350" F. oven for 20 to
25 minutes or until sauages are Well done, Servos 4.
