AGES FIVE, SIX AND SEVEN YEARS
• Bill Brown rolls a terrific 310 single Wrestlers take the Huron Perth championship JUNIORS
With a mark in every frame
and two strikes in the tenth,
Bill Brown rolled an outstand-
ing 370 single. Some of those
TV bowlers better watch out,
because this young fellow is a
real competitor. He leads his
own league with high average,
he spares quite regularly in the
Monday night men's league and
takes a back seat to none. Keep
up the fine bowling, Bill.
For the gals (take note Dot
C.) the high single 153 was
rolled by Christine Kregar with
high double rolled by Candice
Foxton with 279. Doubles ov-
er 300 included Steven Tiffin
314, Terry Reid 313, Tom Lee
306 (still no 200 single Tom).
Jane -Ann's Gentries and
Kathy's Killers came through
with full 5 points while the im-
proving Jeanette's Jets had a
real battle with top ranked Can-
dice but had to settle for two
of the 5 points.
BANTAMS
Almost had another 200
game in this league as Roger
Tiffin rolled a fine 197 single
-- congratulations, Roger. Keep
your eye on that 200 mark; I
know you'll make it. Roger
had a fine 346 double but it
was just not enough as Bradley
Simmons rolled two fine lines
181, 174 for 355 double. Good
rolling, Bradley.
For the gals, Marlene Fox-
ton was tops with 160 single,
264 double. Boys over 125 in-
clude Dale Walden 135, 134,
David Walker 127, Jay Mac-
Laurin 132, Bradley Coulter
139, and special congratula-
tions to little Steven Readman
who with perseverance hit the
100 plateau with 119 single.
Nice going Steve.
It was all or nothing as Bat-
men, Lulus and Tweeties all
took 5 points.

COMMERCIAL LEAGUE
I was watching Carl L. this
week, and think it would be
quite interesting to know what
he was using as a "magic mark-
er" to get those strikes. Per-
haps Jack W. could use this in-
formation, too, as he seemed
to be having some difficulty
getting past the head pin. That
empty space drew him like a
magnet, and every time he
took out the head pin, it seem-
ed as if his next two bowls fol-
lowed through. Never mind,
Jack, we all do it!
Shirley Storey took the high
single with 250 and the high
triple with 638, The boys shar-
ed the honors this week when
Frank Burke (for the second
time) took the high single with
283 and Bill Hotchkiss the high
triple with 723. Pretty nice
bowling, I would say.
Team standings: George's
Black Horse still in first place
with 72, but right on his heels
are two teams tying for second
place, Don's Black Labels and
John's Red Caps, both with 69
points. Jack's Viennas, 64;
Harold's Canadians 59 and last,
but certainly not least are
Norm's Crystals with 45.
And for those of you who
have been sitting back conserv-
ing your strength, now is the
time to come forward with'
some effort as there are only six
more weeks of regular play left.

MEN'S LEAGUE
Monday night was Jim Bain
night in the Men's League. Old
Smoothie rolled a 380 in the
first game to register the high
single for the season, beating
Bruce Machan's 278. Jim miss-
ed the head pin on his last ball
and a 400 game with it. The
top four teams are bunched up
a little closer after Monday
night's action and we could
still have a real battle for first
place.
We noticed the week before
that one of the .pin boys wore a
football-type helmet in de-
fence of Mac Ritehie's bombs.
Mac wasn't throwing as hard
Monday night, however, after
bowling fifteen games over the
week-end.
Some of the better games
rolled Monday night in the
Men's League were: Jim Bain
380 and a 815 triple; Bill Step-
henson 252; Mac Ritchie 266

too far behind having a single
of 231. Kaye Swan had high
triple for the second week in a
row with 544.

Stan Chadwick and Brian 0'-
Hallam were tied at 285 for

Bob Angus with a 286 game.

The Wingham Mustangsjour-
neyed through one of the worst
snow storms of the season to St.
Marys, to regain the Huron-
Perth Trophy for the third time
after being beaten out by Lis-
towel last year.
From start to finish Wingham
burned up the mats to out-class
and out-wrestle their closest
rivals, Listowel, by the score of
121 to 98, with Goderich hav-
ing 64, St. Marys 36 and Sea-
forth 22.
After practising all year and
dieting for weeks, the Mustangs
showed excellent form as they
had 11 out of 12 in the finals
while only 8 made it from Lis-
towel. Wingham took five in-
dividual championships with
Rae Cronin at 98; Larry Brooks
Owing to the Women's
World Day of Prayer there was
no gathering of the Giraffes last
week and consequently there
are no howls from the Pen.
However, there should be items
of interest to report after this
Friday's get-together. It is hop-
ed that other young people in-
terested in getting together for
a time of fellowship in a relax-
ed manner will join their fel-
low and sister Giraffes in the
Pen this Friday at 8.00 p.m.

lowship this week a new resi-
dent of the Belmore area. Rev.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT
LADIES' LEAGUE
The Violets went into a
slump this week. Everyone was
off the head pin. For the first
time in many weeks they fail-
ed to get any points but are still
in first place with 115.
In second place are the Lil-
lies taking 4 points and now
have a total of 94; in third
place are the Hyacinths taking
3 points, now with 74; in fourth
place are the Asters, taking all
7 points to make a total of 68;
fifth are the Marigolds taking 3
points for a total of 58. The
Daisies are still last but are
slowly coming out. If Marg
would just get a new pair of
glasses each week. They took
4 points and now have a total of
53.
Hilda Brown bowled the high
single of 271 and Ruth Tiffin
took the triple with 640.

THURSDAY NIGHT
MIXED LEAGUE
Audrey Swatridge was in
good form this week when she
bowled a 266 to win the ladies'
high single, Gwen MacLaurin
came through with the high
triple, a pretty neat 672. It
should have been a 700, but
Gwen seemed to have a bit of
trouble with that corner pin.
She'll have to practise a few of
those on Thursday mornings.
In the men's department,
KEITH MOFFATT won the
men's high single with a ter-
rific 33211 (WS a good thing we
didn't have a quarter on that
game.) Keep up the good work
Keith.
Mac Ritchie didn't seem to
have much trouble with the
head pin this week. Mac won
the triple with 682,
I don't know how Murray and
Barry were bowling, but they
seemed to have the Prunes and
Plums in stitches all night.
Standings: Paul'S Plums 96;
flab's Bananas 82; Elwood's
Peaches 78; Frank's Figs 69;
Stew's Prunes 69 and moving up
fast, Bob's Blueberries 684
at 115; Norm Corrin at 168;
Doug Gibson at 183 and Lee Mc-
Guire in the unlimited class,
The Mustangs went all out
the whole time and never gave
up. As a result only one Wing-
ham wrestler was pinned and
that match was a close one too.
The matches lost were all by
decisions as no one wanted to
give in.
The bouts went as follows:
98 lbs.; Rae Cronin was in
fine shape as he won his first
bout against Wayne Fisher by a
score of 7-1 and pinned Ron
Rabibeau in the finals at 3:25 to
take one of the five champion-
ships.
106 lbs.: Doug Finley, tak-
ing the place of the injured Terry
Johnston, was up for this fight,
too, as he won a 9-2 decision ov-
er Jack Conn of St. Marys in his
first match but lost to the veteran
wrestler Dave Cornish from'God-
erich in the finals at the 5.00
mark.
115 lbs.: Larry Brooks who
weighed in two pounds under-
weight, had no trouble as he
Fordwich teams

FORDWICH--The Fordwich
squirt team played two games
last week in their semi-finals
against Wroxeter. The first
game was tied 3-3 and after
overtime Fordwich won. Then
on Saturday afternoon they play-
ed again in Fordwich arena and
won 3-2. Well done, boys and
we also say the same to 'the
other team. These small fry
really play good games.
The Pee Wees lost their
game 8-4 Wednesday night
when they played host to Bel-
grave. They also lost their
game to Belmore on Friday
night, 8-2.
The Bantam team played
Kurtzville in their arena last
week and also lost 16-3.
The Intermediates played
here on Wednesday night against
Kurtzville and won 13-6 and on
Friday night the score looked
much different when they met
Alma in the local arena and
lost to the tune of 7-0,
The Fordwich Rockets met
Drew in Clifford on Tuesday
night. The score was Drew 8,
Fordwich 2, and on Thursday
night the same two teams play-
ed in the Mildmay arena and
tied the game 3-3.

4. J. Martin, Mrs, G. Gannett,
pinned both his competitors,
Terry Corbett from Goderich In
55 sec. and Mike Flynn from
Listowel in 5;40, for hischamp-
ionship. From the way Larry
wrestled, he has a good chance
of going all the way this year,
Good luck, Larry!
123 lbs.: Don Cronin pinned
Neil McClure in his first match
and just lost in the finals to Lee
Burnett of Listowel in an over-
time period. The final score
was 2-0, This was one of the
closest matches of the day.
130 lbs.: Neil Gowing show-
ed his skill as he won his first
two bouts 6-2 over Bob Everett
from Goderich and pinned Les-
lie Ducharme from Seaforth in
5;25. In the finals he lost a
decision to Arnold Allan of Lis-
towel.
136 lbs.: Larry Brooks of
Wingham almost took his class
as he pinned Jack Thompson of
Listowel in 3:20, putting him in.
the finals where he met George
Gould of Goderich but couldn't
seem to get started. He put up
a valiant effort but lost by de-
cision to Gould,
141 lbs,; Doug Elliott of
Wingham won his first fight by
Pinning Don Cameron of St.
Marys in a high scoring bout at
5:30 then in the finals lost to
Gary Kuchta of Listowel by de-
cision,
148 lbs.: Bryan Forsyth met
up with Bob Willis, the event-
ual winner in the first match,
and was just nosed out 2-0 in a
close fight. Bryan then went on
to pin Lome Facey of St. Marys
and won a default over Rae
Fisher of Listowel to grab third
place for Wingham.
157 lbs.: Jamie Douglas, of
Wingham had a great day ashe
won a decision over Bill Thomp-•
son of Seaforth in his firstmatch
and almost took the title from
the veteran Barry Neable of Lis-
towel, but lost 9-7 in one of
the best fights of the day.
168 lbs.; It was Norm Corrin
all the way in this class as he
pinned Tom Papple of Seaforth
in 45 seconds; won a 1-0 decis-
ion over Keld Pederson of St.
Marys and went on to take the
championship by beating Jirn
Greer of Listowel, 7-0.
183 lbs.: Doug Gibson of
Wingham had little competi-
tion in his weight class as he
pinned Don Edwards of Godere
ich in the fastest pin of the.day.
(34 seconds) and in the finals
pinned Listowel's so-called
"Masher", Paul Heath in 1;25.
Doug has got his eye on a
WOSSA championship and we're
sure he can do it.
Unlimited: Already 'sure of
the Huron-Perth crown, Lee Mc-
Guire iced the cake for the
Mustangs as he pinned Gerald
Coleman of St. Marys in 1:45
and in the finals won a decision
over Bob Wilkin of Goderich to
take Wingham's fifth champ-
ionship.
On Feb. 18 the boys travel
to WOSSA in St. Thomas to try
their luck. We hope to put up
a good fight for Wingham, and
we'll put everything into it.
