JUNIORS What happened, gang? No 200 lines this week; did that heavy snow slow you up? For the second week in a row Tom Lee was knocking on tile 200 circle but fell a little shy as he rolled high single 198 and double 385. Keep trying Tom, maybe next week a 200. Ruth Ann Readman of the Rollers once again rolled to full honors for the girls with 160 single, only 7 pins "imagine just 7 pins" better than 153 roll- ed by Marilyn Irwin. Ruth Ann's double of 268 was only 7 pins better than Kim Mellor's 261 double.. Boys with singles over 170 included Paul Forsyth 191, Steer en Watson 175, David Walker 172, Bob LaRose 192. The Jets and Gentries each took one game with the Gent- ries getting the extra point. The Rollers seemed to have eyes on top spot as they took 5 points to move a little closer to the top two teams, Crooks and Killers, who had a battle royal. on the middle alleys with Crooks get- ting the extra point. Following the opening exercis- es, Kim led the boys in two re, lays, the winning Six to re- ceive ten points. Meta seated the boys in a circle and every- one enjoyed a geography game. The boys went into their groups to continue Star work. Akela took the new Chums in preparation for investment and found the boys had spent a great deal of time at home, learning the tenderpad requirements. The boys were given verses to learn at home for a vesper service. The winning Six for the night was the Yellow Six with 28 points. WEDNESDAY NIGHT MIXED LEAGUE Mike's Mules regained first place this week by winning two games and total pins over Mar- ty's Mice, Ken's Kougars are in third place with '74 points, Joe's Jacks have 02 points, 13d , an's Brutes have 53 points and Bob's Beareats have 47. Ian McLaurin had men's high single of 348 and Mike Illavach had high triple 0026. Joe Desmarais ran a close sec- ond for high triple with 700. Nancy Gillespie had ladies' high single of 187 and Jane Day had high triple of 510. QUICK CHANGE — Wingham Pee Wees fought hard but dropped their encounter to Owen Sound by a 4-1 count during the BANTAMS The'scores in this group get better, and ,better each week. Patricia Willie came through with flying pins to take girls' high single 108 and double 206, and our youngest bowler, 5- year-old Cathy Foxton rolled lines of 106 and 118! Real good games even though Grand- ma "'F" wasn't here fo lend en- couragement but hope that this regular leader is enjoying her trip to the sunny south, Some of the guys in this group sure are making scores in other leagues look sick. hope some of those Juniors and Inter- mediates who have been roll , ing games like '79 and 91, take special note of these fine lines: Bill Staight high single 184, ,Roger Tiffin 170 and 162. Keep up the good bowling, boys. Here are some other lines rolled, Marlene Foxton 140, 101, Brian Gordon 124, Jay MacLaurin 112, 108, David Tiffin 133, 115, Bradley Coul- ter 114, 106, Jeff Croskill 111, 102, Debbie Hull 103, Bradley Simmons 129, 120. The, Bunnies beat Donald Ducks 5 to 0, the Tweeties took a similar count from the short handed Caspers. (What happened Dale - did you sleep )111i111111111112 Minor Hockey Week program on Saturday. Here they are as they made a fast change of players during the game.—A-T Photo. Strikes & Spares 1NTERNIEDIATES With Only 5 bowlers on each team and every score counting, two teams were knocking on the 1000-mark as the Bloopers fell 13 pins short with 987 pin- fall and Stacie's Strikes with 941. (Hope some of our adult leagues - Men's Intertown in- cluded, take note of those team totals. Not bad, eh?). Barb Dauphin took full hon- ors for girls with 227 single and 384 double and Diane Grove next with 178 single and 313 double. Bill Strong with 242 single nosed out Bruce Boyd for single honors but Bruce put to- gether games of 205, 241, to take high double with a very fine 446 double. Others over 200 mark,Wayne Gordon 215, Richard Wharton 228, 206, Don Collar 225, Doug Elliott 226, Ricky Gard- ner 208. Barb's Bloopers took both games from Diane's Raid- ers and for the first time this season, I believe, Stacia's Strikes took 5 points -- their victims, Jennifer's Jokers. The King sisters had a real battle going with Joann's Jonas getting the extra point. Who said these bowlers couldn't hold their own with any bowler in any league? You noticed Bruce Boyd's games 205 and 241? Well, on short notice, without time for dinner, Bruce filled in for a missing bowler in the Men's Intertown team, journeyed to Clinton and roll- ed a five game total of 1008. --Nice rolling, Bruce. Screwdrivers 80; Boilermakers 75; Ruin N' Cokes 59; Whiskey Sours 57. 0--0--0 WEDNESDAY NIGHT LADIES' LEAGUE The first place Violets and the second place Lillies played each other and came out split- ting the points. The Violets gained 4 more points giving them a total of 108 and the Lila lies gained three for a total of 88. The Hyacinths, no points, are still third with '11 and the fourth place Asters, also no • points, still have 56. The Mari- golds gained all seven points and now have a total of 53, The Daisies are still in the cellar but for the first time this sea- son took all seven points and now have a total of 44. Watch out, girls, the Daisies may have come alive. Lyle I hickey took the single with a 264 and Shirley Storey the triple with 671. 0-0-4 THURSDAY NIGHT MIXED LEAGUE Our lone spare for the night was Dorothy Bain who really helped the Blueberries out. Dot won the ladies' high single with a 292 and the high triple with 714. Bob Brooks won the men's high single with a terrific 316. Wayne Brown won the men's high three with a 708. That's keeping the ole average up Wayne! I would never be for- given if I didn't mention the fact that Keith Moffat was just ten points behind him with 698. Nice going, Keith. There were a few surprises this week, whe' the two bot- tom teams each took seven points. Maybe there's hope for us yet! Bill roll- ed a fine 808 triple including a 321 and 293 on Monday night in the Men's League. Bill's consistent bowling is one rea- son why the Scotch N' Sodas are hanging on to first place, Maybe all the other teams should chip in and send Bill to Florida for a month or so? Saw Jim Bain taking a practise bowl on Tuesday and for awhile I was afraid it wouldn't do him too much good, as he took out five headpins in a row in his first game. But he came up with a terrific game and I have decided that if prac- tise shots help that much, they're for me. Janette Scott was also in there pitching, and if it hadn't been for so much rough luck, she too, would have come up with a terrific game. What do you say we eliminate those corner and head pins altogether, Janette? It might help me out too. am unable to give you the team standings this week, but can tell you that George's team took six points, Harold's five points, John's four points, Don's three points, Jack's two points and Norm's team one point. I believe George's team (Black Horse) and John's team (Red Caps) are tied for first place. George really got carried away this week. His team bowled such a high score, I guess he felt they didn't need his points for the last frame and was all ready to leave when he was called hack to complete his game. Must be nice to have so much confidence. At last! Frank Burke hit the score board this week by taking the high single with 287 and the high triple goes to Bill Hotch kiss for rolling a score of 817. Nice going, Bill. however, keep an eye on Dolly, for things are looking up for her too, and she will likely be roll ing one of those high scores in the near future, Nothing fazes our Shirley, and she took the high single with 258 and as well the high triple with 671. Pitt,. ty good night's work, Shirl. Ruth was away recuperating and our Louise is still among the missing regulars. It will be nice to see them back and soon, we hope. Thanks go to Janet, to Scott, Helen Casemore and Lois Cerson for coining to our rescue. The men's round robin for January was completed on Thursday. The winners of the president's trophy were skip, J. Lloyd, vice A. Hafermehl, sec- ond C. Burke and lead, G.Wall- ing. Lee Grove played second in the final game for C. Burke. Runners-up were skip R. Campbell, vice S. Orien, sec- ond D. LcVan and lead D. Rae, The February draw opened January 30th with another 24 rinks, but with some changes since some of the curlers are heading south for a holiday. During the past couple of weeks Wingliam rinks have been playing off in different events for Ontario Curling Association, but none of the rinks made group play-offs. On Saturday a rink skipped by Lloyd Casemore, vice C. Goodyear, second, L. Gardnier and lead, D. Whitmore won third prize at CFB Clinton in the Commanding Officer Bon- spiel. Also on Saturday a Lions Club rink with R. S. Ilethering, ton, B. Conran, M. Cranun and G., Beard played in the Ex- eter Lions Bortspiel and won one game.
