THE LAST SAY
IP
Keith McClure
The United States government recently seized 5,400 jars
of instant coffee from a nationally know food manufacturer
for misleading the public on the labelling of its product.
Government officials claimed that the contpany was
charging more for its "Giant Economy Size.' per ounce than for its regular size-about 16 percent more. The company's
advertising on the jar mislead the buyer into thinking that
the large size paid a bonus in economy When the opposite
was true:
What is unusual is that this was a nationally-known
brand nave product put out by a large and established corporation. In an indirect sense it is an indictment against questionable business practices in general that too often be-
come our accepted method of doing things.
AdVertiaing, for instance, that labels a car "one owner" when that owner was a taxicab company; or 'low mileage"
when the thilegge is only low because it has been set habit: "no money down" when the town payment is actually the customer's present car or a second Watt is basiCally. dis-honest. It may legally skirt the area of indietable fraud the intention is the seine,
Misleading advertising has a Way of tothirig bad( to
haunt its perpetrators. A sale thus gained Can Meat lost
&raider-fee tomorrow and lost sales With it, This is the pub, lic'a Way of getting even and they always end up with the last say.

IN MEMORIAM
McCREERY-In loving mem-
ory of a dear father and
brother, Oliver Nathan Mc-
Creery, who passed away
January 27, 1960,
Memories are like threads of
gold.
Never tarnish or grow old,
Sadly missed along life's way,
Quietly remembered every day,
-Lovingly remembered by
Murray, Jean and sisters. 26b
TIFFIN-In loving memory of
our mother, Mary Jane Tif-
fin, who passed away -three
years ago on January 25,
1964,
There's an open gate at the
end of the road,
Through which each must go
alone;
And there is a light we cannot
see,
Our Father claims his own.
Beyond the gate our loved one ,
finds happiness and rest.
And there is comfort in the
thought
That a loving God knows best,
-Lovingly remembered and
sadly missed by her sons and
daughters, sons - in - law and
daughters-in-law, 26b
