HOW DOES THE
DEPRECIATION CYCLE
AFFECT YOU?►
Keith McClure
If you are thinking of buying a used ear as a second
car for your family or as the main family transportation,
then this is the best of all possible times to buy it.
The reason lies in the way the Wingham car market is
affected by supply and demand. When demand is lowest,
it follows that prices are lowest and the stock most selec-
tive. That time is now.
Yearly depreciation is constantly chipping away at the
value of all Cars. Not in one big yearly drop, as many own-
ers tend to think, but in a series of stages triggered by fall-ing demand:
First is July with a lull after the spring rush; next is
Labor Day and the new car announcements, clicking over a
style year when all cars become officially one year older;
November cold and approaching Christmas reduce demand
surd market prices a third time.
The market then remains slow until the warm days of
March when a given car may actually rise in value until the depreciation cycle resumes in July. Ahead now is a
period of five months or more of little or no depreciation!
Lease and rental companies put large numbers of one-
and-two-year-old cars on the market at this time of year.
further increasing selection and decreasing prices.
A quality used car now from a reputable dealer could
be your 'best buy,
