Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Potter, IIolmesville, visited with Miss BLUEVALE—The annual meeting of the Bluevale Public Library Board was held on Feb- ruary 2nd in the library. Mrs. Bert Garniss presided. Mrs, Harry Elliott, secre- tary-treasurer, reported the year's activities. The balance on hand is $177. Municipal and governmen grants are the chief support of the library. The circulation of books total- led 1960. Books to the value of $75 were bought during the year. Officers for 1966 will be, chairman, Mrs. Bert Garniss; BLUEVALE—The United Church Women met in the school room of the United Church on Thursday. Mrs. Mel Craig presided. Mrs. Craig led discussion of various aspects of the work of the organization, with special reference to two projects to be undertaken in 1966. The report of the treasurer, Mrs. James Johnston, showed a substantial balance. Decora- tions in the manse, recently provided, were reported. Unit One had charge of the study period, conducted by Mrs. Charles Campbell. Mrs. W.J. Peacock read the Scripture. Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Carl Johnston, gave readings rela- tive to the work of the U.C.W. Mrs. Kenneth Johnston suggest- ed goals of the U.C.W. to be kept in view, stressing differ- ent ways of doing missionary work. Rev. G. C. Mitchell; past pres., Mrs. Carl Will Again Adopt Chinese Orphan WROXETER—The regular meeting of the United Church Women was held in the Sunday School room of the United Church last Wednesday evening. The meeting opened with a reading, ;' Who Is My Neighbor?” by Mrs. George Gibson. A hymn and prayer followed. The devotional part of the meeting was taken by Mrs. W. McLean and Mrs. Geo. Gibson. Doreen Riley played two piano selections and another hymn was sung. The film, "Peggy Ann and the Women Folk", related to Contemporary Women and the Contemporary Church, was presented with a question and answer period on the film, led by Mrs. Ken Edgar. Mrs. Rae Louttit occupied the chair for the business. It was decided to adopt little Irene, the Chinese orphan for another year. Mrs. Glen Mc- Michael presented the budget for 1966 and it was accepted. Lunch was served by the Har- mony Group at the close of the meeting. BLUEVALE Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott and family of Newton and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hall and family of Brussels were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hall Mr. and Mrs. Gus Hunt and baby visited Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Taylor at the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Suanz and family, of Galt, visited Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fraser on Sunday. Mrs. Colin Fingland of Wing- ham, visited Miss Mary Duff on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Smith visited at Brucefield on Sunday. REC. ASSOCIATION EUCHRE PARTY BLUEVALE--The euchre par- ty sponsored by the Bluevale Recreational Association was held in the community hall on Thursday evening with 13 tables in play. Prize winners were: High, Mrs. Ida Evans, Andy Gibson; low, Mrs. Gordon Mundell, Raymond Wright; specials, Mrs. Jim Elliott, Lloyd Taylor. The committee in charge was Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Mc- Murray, Mr. and Mrs. George Hetherington and Mr. and Mrs. George Lowis. Young Women Form Group BLUEVALE—Young women of the United Church met on Tuesday evening of last week at the United Church manse, with Mrs. G. C. Mitchell as hostess, for the purpose of or- ganizing an evening auxiliary to the U.C.W. The project met with en- thusiastic support from the 15 young ladies present, The of- ficers elected were: Leader, Mrs. Kenneth Johnston; secre- tary-treasurer, Mrs. Murray McFarlane; program convener, Mrs. Ross Nicholson. BELGRA V E — The Afternoon Unit of the W. met Wed- nesday of last week in the church basement with 17 mem- bers present. Mrs. Earl Ander- son presided and opened with a hymn. Secretary Mrs. Carl Procter read the minutes and a thank you note was read. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Helen Martin. The Presbyterial meeting in Clinton on March 22 was an- nounced and Mrs. Ross Robinson and Mrs. Helen Martin were named delegates. The group decided to assist in catering for the London Conference in Wing- ham, March 28 and 29th, The visits to the sick were recorded. Mrs. Carl Procter led the worship service which opened with a hymn. Scripture was fol- lowed by meditation and pray- er. This year the study is on Trinidad and Mrs. Arthur Jack- son showed pictures of Trinidad. Mrs. Stanley Cook reported some of the statistics and cus- toms of the island. The Bible study, "God's Chosen People" was taken by Mrs. Jackson with members reading Scripture pas- sages. Groups were formed for discussion with a question and answer period. UCW Accepts Invitation to Hardy Home DONNYBROOK—The Febru- ary meeting of the U.C.W. was held on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Sam Thompson with a good attend- ance. " 0 Master, Let Me Walk With Thee" was sung. Mrs. Tom Armstrong had charge of the business. Mrs. John Hildebrand gave the call to worship and led in prayer. Mrs. Hildebrand read the King James version of Psalm 119 and Mrs. Edward Robinson read the revised version, alternately. Mrs. Hildebrand led in prayer and gave the meditation. Mrs. Robinson had charge of the study book and Mrs. Hilde- brand was in charge of the study guide. A discussion period fol- lowed and Jane Thompson re- ceived the offering. Mrs. Mor- ley Johnston gave a reading, "The Need of the World To- day". Mrs. Robinson thanked the hostess and her assistant. Mrs. Hildebrand closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served by the hostess assisted by Mrs. Margaret Leddy. Mrs. William Hardy invited the ladies to her home for the March meeting. BELGRA.VE—The Ladies' Guild of Trinity Anglican Church met at the home of Mrs. Lawrence Vannan on Thursday. President Mrs. Robert Procter was in charge. The opening hymn was followed by prayer. Scripture was read by Mrs. Clare VanCanap, Minutes were read and roll call answered by 12 members, Mrs. Cooper Nethery gave the financial re- port. Rev. Pakingham read a chapter from the hook, "Good News" . Mrs. Procter moved a vote of thanks to Mrs. Jack Van- Camp and Mrs. Mel Bradburn for planning the program for the coming year and to Rev. Pakingham for having them printed. Dues were collected. The World Day of Prayer was announced for Friday, Feb. 25 in the Presbyterian Church and Mrs, Clare VanCamp and Mrs. Alex Nethery were named to read prayers. The program was in charge of Mrs. Cooper Nethery. She read an article by Padre Young. Mrs. Mel Bradburn read a poem, and Mr . Vannan played a pi- ana solo.
