WHITECHURCH—The Unit-
ed Church held a candlelight-
ing service on Sunday evening
with a fair crowd in attendance,
The church was beautifully de-
corated with a lighted Christ-
mas tree, ferns, poinsettias,
lighted candles in every win-
dow, two large candelabra with
seven candles each and alight-

The minister, Rev, George
Mitchell, conducted the wor-
ship service when many carols
were sung, He gave a Christ-
mas story,
Mrs. Millan Moore was com-
mentator for the candlelighting
service. Mrs. George Thomp-
son read the Scripture, Carols
were sung. Eight girls, Janis
Farrier, Anne and Marlene Web-
er, Linda Martin, Carolyn Ad-
ams, Margaret Moore, Diane
Coultes and Beverley Soloman
lighted candles and passed down
the church aisles to the back
where they remained through-
out the singing of the last carol
and the benediction,

On a super highway one
night a fast-moving automo-
bile suddenly jumped the road,
leapt over a couple of retaining
walls, and rolled over on its
back in an adjoining field.
A highway patrolman, hard
on the speeder's heels, pulled
up beside the overturned car.
"What in blazes d'ya think
you're doing?" he demanded.
"You drunk or something?"
"Cern'ly I'm drunk," snap-
ped the driver. "Whaddya think
I am-- a stunt driver?"

Christmas Meeting
B13I.GRAVE--The Christmas
meeting of the Belgrave Wo-
men's Institute was conducted
by Mrs. Stanley Cook. Minutes
and financial statement'were
given by Mrs. Earl Anderson.
Thank you notes were read from
the Children's Aid Society, the
Ontario Hospital, severalmem-
bers, and Westminster Hospital.
Mrs. J. M. Coultes offered
to buy the present for Robert
Watson, the Institute's war vet-
eran in London. Mrs. Arthur
Jackson and Mrs. Stanley Cook
were appointed a committee to
arrange a bake sale in January
at the arena. The roll call was
answered by "How do you plan
to spend Christmas this year?"
Mrs, Arthur Jackson was con-
vener with the theme, "How
Far Is It to Bethlehem Town?"
The ladies sang several of the
better known carols and Mrs.
Jackson told of the authors and
circumstances under which
these carols were written. Mrs,
Norman Coultes sang "Deck the
Halls" and "Angels We Have
Heard on High".
The group listened to "Unto
Us a Child was Born" from Men-
delssohn's Messiah and then
watched the film " Holy Night".
Lunch was served by Mrs. C.
Purdon, Mrs. Cora McGill and
Mrs. Jesse Wheeler.
Knox Concert
And Supper
BELGRAVE—A pot luck sup-
per preceded the annual Sun-
day School concert for Knox
United Church in the Foresters'
Hall. Community singing was
led by Mrs. Arthur Jackson and
Mrs. George Johnston provided
accompaniment.
Marjorie Nixon, Gary Hop-
per and Janice Coultes said
recitations. Nancy Anderson
and Brenda Johnston sang "Christ-
mas
Christmas in Killarney", "Silver
Bells" and "Jingle Bell Rock".
A pageant of Christmas waspre-
sented by the junior girls. The
kindergarten chorus sang" Over
the Hills to Bethlehem" and
"Away in a Manger". The kin-
dergarten children did three
finger plays, followed by a
recitation by Brian Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. Jake Meul-
wyk sang "Silent Night" in
Dutch. They were accomp-
anied by Mrs. George Michie.
A duet, "Sunbonnet Sally and
Overall Jim", was sung byJudy
and Bonnie Cook. A play,
"Madame Camellia's Beauty
Parlour" was presented by the
pupils of 13 E. Wawanosh. Clif'
ford Coultes gave two readings.
Mrs. Meulwyk and Barbara sang
a Dutch duet.
The primary class presented
"His Star -Christmas". Doreen
Anderson sang "Christmas". A
pageant, "The Lights ofChrist-
mas", was presented by the
Explorer Group. Santa arrived
and distributed presents and
