E. Pickford of Windsor, and Robert Norman Rintoul of Brampton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rintoul of Wingham. Rev, Pickford gave hisdaugh• ter in marriage and the cere- mony was performed by her un- cle, Rev. D. C. Candy of Port Credit. Frank Renwick sang "Wedding Prayer" before the service and "0 Perfect Love" during the signing of the regis- ter. The congregation joined in the singing of "Gracious Spir- it, Holy Ghost" as the bride and groom proceeded to the altar rail, Mrs. Gordon Davidson was the organist. The floor -length bridal gown of white crepe was styled on empire lines, with scooped neckline and elbow -length sleeves trimmed with imported Belgium Alencon lace. A cha- pel train fell from the back waistline. A wedding ring head piece held her floor -length illusion veil. Her only jewel- lery was a black onyx ring, the gift of the groom. She carried a cascade bouquet of red Sweet- heart roses and ivy. The bride's attendants were Mrs. William Crawford of Tor- onto, matron of honor, and bridesmaids, Miss Penny Gerrie of New York City and Miss Jo- Anne Pickford of Windsor, sis- ter of the bride. They wore floor -length gowns styled on empire lines of Kelly green bro- cade re -embroidered in royal blue. They wore matching bow headpieces and carried a single long-stemmed, white Com- mercial mum. Michelle Rintoul of London, niece of the groom was flower - Shower for Barb Pickford Friends and relatives gather- ed in the Oddfellow's Hall re- cently for a shower in honor of Miss Barbara Pickford, whose marriage to Bob Rintoul took place last Saturday. Mrs. Doug Davidson, Mrs. Wayne Brown and Mrs. Bill Crawford were hostesses. The hall was decorated with blue and green streamers and bells. A bride's book waspass- ed. Barbara received a floor polisher and many useful house- hold items, for which she ap- propriately thanked everyone. Contests and a sing -song were held and lunch was serv- ed by the hostesses. Prior to Barbara's departure from Ontario Hydro in Guelph, the office girls presented her with a white linen tablecloth. The entire staff gave her a beautiful cannister set. The Sisters check regularly, and the nurses are popping in from time to time checking up, puffing pil- lows and the usual routine that goes on in every hospital. It was like a light sent from heaven until the auxiliary came on, --so let it be a reminder to always have a flashlight, in good working order, with you at home and in your car, Your cards and thoughts are very much appreciated and a lift every day. Guests attended a reception at the Blue Barn, Listowel, where tables were decorated with fern and candles. The bride's mother wore a three- piece ensemble of olive green —Wingham Photo Studio brocade with brown accessories and a corsage of apricot mums. The groom's mother wore a cranberry red wool crepe dress with matching accessories and a corsage of pink camations. Mrs. Mabel Candy, grand- mother of the bride, chose a dress of teal blue with match- ing accessories. Her corsage was deep pink carnations. Mr. and Mrs. Rintoul will live in Brampton. They left on a wedding trip to Bermuda. The bride travelled in a dark brown walking suit trimmed with Arc- tic fox, and matching acces- sories with a corsage of Orange Delight roses. Cancer Society Executive Meets Miss Earnscliffe Musgrave and Miss Anne Henry opened their home on Friday afternoon to members of the executive of the Wingham Branch, Canad- ian Cancer Society. Miss Irene Paton, chairman of services, chaired the meet- ing and plans were made to re- member the sick at the Christ- mas season. The group will meet at the home of Miss Pa- ton on the afternoon of Nov- ember 26th at 2:30 o'cloek, when plans will be completed, Miss Paton reported briefly on the recent workshop meet- ing held at Stratford, which was attended by five members of the executive. Gary Dobson Wins Blanket On Saturday afternoon the Kinette Club held a coffee break and bake sale in the I. O.O.F. rooms. Convener of the event was Mrs. Stewart Leed- ham. The Kinettes extend thanks to the public for patronizing the sale and for purchasing tick- ets on the draw for an electric blanket. The draw was made by Mrs. Hugh Carmichael and the winner was Gary Dobson of Wingham. A dinner party was held at Danny's Restaurant when 22 members of the family were present, including her son, Gordon of Timmins, Bill and Howard of Wingham, and daughters, Mrs. Robert Wilson of Peterboro, Mrs. Hugh Thompson of Seaforth and Mrs. James Campbell of Wingham, grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. HOLDS TEA FOR ONTARIO WARDEN Mrs. William Bain, District Deputy President of the Rebek- ah Assembly of Ontario held a tea at her home on Centre Street last Wednesday in honor of Mrs. Marjory McLean, war- den of the Rebekah Assembly of Ontario. Also attending was Mrs. Martha Patterson, the past president of the Rebekah As- sembly. Mrs. McPherson 97 on Monday Mrs. William McPherson, the former Ellen Harris, observ- ed her 97th birthday on Monday Nov. 15th. Mrs. McPherson is the last survivor of a family of nine children. Her husband, Mr. William McPherson, died in 1921 and she has one daughter, Miss Yvonne McPherson, who resides with her. Mrs. McPherson has spent most of her married life—in Wingham, with a few years in Kitchener and Toronto. She en- joys fairly good health except for failing eyesight and hearing. She is interested in travelling and politics and has a keen sense of wit and humor. A tea was given in her hon- or on both Sunday and Monday at her home on Catherine St, when friends and relatives call- ed to offer congratulations and good wishes. The tea table was decorated in pink and white. Assisting her daughter, Miss Yvonne McPherson, with the tea were Mrs. A. W. Macfie, Mrs. M. Davis, Mrs. J. Kerr, Mrs. R. H. Lloyd, Mrs. Emer- son Shera and Mrs. H. Sieling. BRITTANY BEEF EN CASSEROLE 1/ lb. beef round, cut in 1 inch cubes 3 strips bacon 1/8 tsp. garlic powder -`� cup consomme 1 cup still Burgundy tsp. salt 12 cups diced carrots 6 small onions, peeled 4 peppercorns 2 whole cloves 2 bay leaves Dredge beef with flour. Cook three strips of bacon in a heavy frying pan until brown, but not crisp, and remove from pan. To the hot bacon fat add garlic powder and then brown the beef cubes on all sides. Add I cup of consomme, Z cup of still Burgundy (or other dry red Canadian table wine) and /tea- spoon of salt, and heat to boil- ing. Now turn this mixture in- to a casserole or a baking dish, add 12 cups of diced carrots, 6 peeled small onions, 4 black peppercorns, 2 whole cloves, 2 bay leaves, and the bacon cut into 1 inch pieces. Cover and bake in a slow oven (300 de- grees) for 2 to 2/ hours. •If you wish (and it's more of- ten done this way in provincial homes), simmer the whole thing in a heavy kettle on top of the stove, adding more con- somme or wine as needed. 0--0--0 SOUR CREAM RAISIN PIE 1 baked 9 inch pie shell 1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed 2 tbsp. flour z tsp. ground nutmeg i tsp. ground cinnamon tsp. salt 1 cup commercial sour cream 3 eggs, separated 1 cup seedless raisins 6 tbsp. granulated sugar Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Prepare half of flaky pastry recipe. Line 9 inch pie plate; crimp edge; prick surface well. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden. Cool on wire rack.
