nesday evening. Mrs. llarry
Elliott presided and Mrs, Chas.
Mathers gave the secretary's
report and the financial state-
ment.
Mrs. Frank Walters, district
president, of Walton, gave an
address outlining the accomp-
lishments of the Women's In-
stitute from its beginning to
the present time, when it is
active in many countries, with
a very large membership. Mrs.
Elliott presented Mrs. Walters
with a gift from the members.
Mrs. Alan Nicholson gave
the motto, "There is magic in
a word of praise".
The roll call was, "One way
1 can set an example as a citi-
zen".
Mrs. George Hetherington
conducted a sing -song with Mrs.
G. C. Mitchell at the piano.
Refreshments were provided
by the committee, Mrs. Chas.
Mathers, Miss Ruby Duff and
Mrs. Raymond Elliott.

BLUEVALE--Roll call was
answered by thirteen at the
Presbyterian W. M.S. meeting
held at the home of Mrs. B.
Robertson.
Devotions and prayer by the
president were followed by the
business. Mrs. G. Golley was
named to the nominating com-
mittee, replacing Mrs. T. E.
Kennedy. Collectors for the
mite boxes were named and the
collection is to be made by No-
vember 21,
Mrs. Joe Walker and Mrs.
Golley conducted the mission
study, "Mission on Our Door-
step". Scripture and comments
were given by Mrs. Walker.
Mrs. Golley presented thoughts
on showing concern for those
who come and go in our midst,
and the servir.;.r that could be
rendered to biose in need, and
strangers in our communities.
Prayers and a hymn con-
cluded the meeting.
Sixteenth century medicine
relied heavily upon burning in-
cense and swallowing strongly
spiced medicines.
Benefit Dance
BLUEVALE—A large crowd
assembled in the community
hall on Friday evening for the
benefit dance for Mr. and Mrs.
Dick DeBoer who lost their barn
recently in a fire.
Alex McTavish read an add-
ress and Jim Elliott presented a
generous purse of money on be-
half of many friends.
Euchre and dancing to the
Gordon Ross Orchestra provided
entertainment and the ladies
provided refreshments.

Bible Society
Organized 1884
BLUEVALE—On Tuesday eve-
ning a meeting of the Canadian
Bible Society was held with a
small attendance, in the United
Church.
Rev. G. C. Mitchell con-
ducted devotions and introduced
the guest speaker, Rev. L. B.
Walden, of Brampton, district
secretary of the organization,
who gave the gospel message
and showed some fine pictures
in color of various Canadian
scenes and pictures to illustrate
the work of the Bible Society.
Mrs. M. L. Aitken who has
been the local secretary -treas-
urer for 16 years, was given a
vote of appreciation. Plans
were discussed for the annual
canvass.
Old records show the society
was first organized in this local-
ity in 1884.
Dinner Marks
40th Anniversary
GORRIE—Mr. and Mrs. Man-
fred Irwin, Gorrie, who were
married 40 years ago, were
guests of honor at a family din-
ner at the Goderich Golf and
Country Club on Saturday eve-
ning.
They were married Novem-
ber 12 at the Anglican rectory
by Rev. R. S. Jones. The cou-
ple spent two years in Toronto
and since have resided in How -
ick Township, the last 25 years
in Gorrie.
They have one son, Donald
Irwin of Goderich and one
daughter, Mrs. Bower (Helen)
Farrish of Goderich, and five
grandchildren.
Mr. Irwin is employed with
the Huron County roads depart-
ment.
