Miss F Beecroft
In R.C. Hospital
WHITECHURCH—Mrs. J.D.
Beecroft received word from
her daughter, Florence, of Tor-
onto,
oronto, a patient in Vancouver
General Hospital following an
accident.
Miss Beecroft flew to Van-
couver a couple of weeks ago
and was holidaying with friends.
She suffered a broken leg when
the car in which she was a
passenger was in collision with
another vehicle.
Miss Beecroft was in a car
accident over '25 years ago. At
that time she also suffered a
broken leg.
Mrs. A. Craig
Dies in Toronto
WHITECHURCH-*Mt, and
Mrs. Dawson Craig accompani-
ed Mr. and Mrs, Bob Hall of
Wingham to Toronto on Thurs-
day where they attended the
funeral of their aunt, Mrs. Ar-
thur Craig, the former Jean
Mullen, who passed away in
Western Hospital.
She leaves a daughter, Mrs.
Hank (Pearl) Courtney of Tor-
onto and a son, John, of Oak-
ville. The late Arthur and
Jack Craig were brothers.
Mrs. Craig will be remem-
bered by many in the com-
munity as she visited frequent-
ly at the Craig home during
summer holidays.

GORRIE—Mrs. D. S. Mac -
Naughton of Wingham was
guest speaker at the November
meeting of the Gorrie Women's
Institute in the Legion Hall on
Wednesday evening, when
members of the Fordwich and
Wroxeter Institutes were guests.
Mrs. Harry Rhame presided.
In her talk on citizenship,
Mrs. MacNaughton said, "By
worth and work we rise." Early
projects of the W.I. helped
raise the standards of the homes
especially in the rural areas.
In our lives as good citizens we
should avoid jealousy, critic-
ism and intolerance. Be kind
and have an outreach for others,
Mrs. MacNaughton stressed.
Mrs. Frank Walters, Walton,
president of the East Huron Dis-
trict, paid her annual visit to
the branch. Her address gave
a great deal of information
about the Institute. She ex-
plained the different levels of
W.I.: branch, district, area,
provincial, dominion and the I

Mrs. Geo. Hamilton thank-
ed the ladies and presented
each with a gift.
Roll call was "Name an arti-
cle from another country" . Mrs.
Glenn Johnston gave current
events. Mrs. Geo. Hamilton
gave thoughts on the motto
"Ask not what your country can
do for you, but what you can
do for your country". She ask-
ed if Canadians had done a
good job with Canada's native
people and immigrants, and in
welcoming new citizens. We
are citizens of Canada and of
the Commonwealth wherever
we have come from. We in-
herit Anglo Saxon, French and
many other cultures. We have
a duty to perform as citizens.
It was decided to hold the
Institute meetings the first Wed-
nesday (notice change of eve-
ning) of each month until the
end of March as several mem-
bers are attending night classes
at the Howick Central School.
Next meeting will be at the
home of Mrs. Norman Wade
on Dec. 1st at 8.30 p.m. The
Institute will cater to the Lions
Club Farmers' Night on Novem-
ber 15th.
A penny auction was held.

Citizenship
LAKELET--Convened by the
Citizenship Committee, the
November meeting of the Wo-
men's Institute was held on
Thursday evening at the Insti-
tute hall. Devotions were read
by Mrs. Charles Scott. Roll
call was answered by naming a
civic official and his office.
The motto, "Prejudice in
race is acquired, and should
not be passed on to our child-
ren" was well presented by Mrs.
Allan Wylie. During the bus-
iness portion reports were heard
on the progress being made in
the 4-H clubs, and members
are reminded of the second and
final meeting of the short
course, "Vegetables with a
Flair" at the home of the as-
sistant leader, Mrs. Lloyd
Jacques this week as planned.
Mrs. Harold Wallace report-
ed on the Guelph Area Con-
vention and Mrs. Emerson Fer-
guson reviewed the W.I. rally
which took place at Walton.
Arrangements were made
for the season's first card party
at Lakelet Institute hall later
this month, Watch for com-
plete announcements.
Mrs. E. Ferguson introduced
Jack Ferguson who spoke on the
roll of a township official. This
was followed by a question and
answer period. The speaker
was thanked by Mrs. Robt.
Wood.
A contest and a social hour
with refreshments concluded
the evening.
SCOUT CAMP OUT
GORRIE—The Baptist Church
Scout group under the leader-
ship of William Stafford, Kit-
chener, spent last week -end
camping in the nearby bush and
toured the farm of John Staf-
ford. The Scouts enjoyed see-
ing the animals being fed.

en's Institute travelled to Bruce -
lea Haven at Walkerton last
Monday afternoon, to visit with
the senior citizens there.

Harkness spent Tuesday in
Guelph where they visited with
Mr. Jack Harkness, who is re-
cuperating after a tonsillec-
tomy.
Mrs. Ella Bradwell of Clif-
ford spent a few days last week
with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Zinn.
While there they all visited
with Mrs. Thomas Aitken at
Walkerton, and oche- friends in
the area. Mrs. Bradwell spent

BELMORE—About 30 friends
and neighbors gathered at the
home of Mrs. Pat Murphy on
the second concession of Cul-
ross, on Saturday evening, for
a linen shower in honor of Miss
Margaret O'Malley, bride of
this week. Hostesses were Mrs.
Murphy, Mrs. Charles O'Malley,
Mrs. Thomas O'Malley and
Mrs. John Moran.
Contests were conducted by
Mrs. Harry Helfenstein and Miss
Lavonne Ballagh, after which
the bride opened her gifts, as-
sisted by her sister, Miss Anita
O'Malley of Toronto, and cou-
sin, Miss Cathy O'Malley of
Teeswater. She expressed her
thanks. Lunch was served by
the hostesses, assisted by Helen,
Cathy, Geraldine and Patsy
O'Malley, and a social time
enjoyed.
Miss O'Malley's marriage to
Mr. John Strong of Wingham,
takes place this Saturday in
Teeswater.

to commemorate the Sacra-
ment of the Lord's Supper was
held in Belmore Presbyterian
Church on Sunday morning.
Rev. T. E. Kennedy was in
charge.
During the service five new
members were received into
the church by profession of
faith. They were Doris Stokes,
Phyllis McKague, Margaret
Jeffray, and Gary and Clare
Burchill.
Sunday school will close for
the winter months, following
next Sunday's classes. Begin-
ning on November 21st church
services will be held at 2:30
p.m.

enjoyed dancing to records, and
no doubt, downed a hearty

Mrs. Fitch and Mr. Murray
Mulvey were in charge of the
evening's arrangements.
