L. Stephens. She was assisted by Mrs, Hec- tor Hamilton, Mrs. Bill Nay, Mrs. George Brown and Mrs. Gordon Edgar. The meditation, "The Pow- er of Suggestion", was given by Mrs. Stephens. Scripture was read by Mrs, Hamilton and Mrs, Nay offered prayer. Mrs. Glad Edgar and Mrs. Russell Adams reported on the fall rally in Fordwich. Mrs. Arthur Jackson will be the speak- er peaker on November 14, and will discuss the new curriculum. Donations for the fall bale may be left at the church by November 15. Mrs. Jack Reavie Is Sunday Speaker GORRIE—Mrs. Jack Reavie of Wingham was speaker at the Sunday morning service in the United Church here for the United Church Women's Fall Thankoffering service. Mrs. Reavie chose as her theme"The Eternal Values in a Changing World" . Colin Fingland of Wingham assisted in the service. Social Evening FORDWICH--Mr. and Mrs. Ira Schaefer were pleasantly surprised Thursday night when friends and neighbours gathered together at their former home for a social evening. Progressive euchre was en- joyed and Ira and Hazel were presented with wall plaques and a wall mirror, for which they both made fitting replies. Lunch was served. Miniature Turtles Found at Gorrie GORRIE--An interesting dis- covery was made by Stephen Wylie, son of Mr, and Mrs,Jim Wylie when he found a brown- ish black turtle, one inch in length, on their driveway, A little searching led to several more of the same species in a hole in the flowerbed,. There were also a number of white eggs, one inch in dia- meter with the appearance of small golf balls, about 20 tur- tles and eggs in all. The turtles have soft shells. The Wylie home is situated across the street from the for- mer chopping mill dam, on a branch of the Maitland River, STAR STOPPERS FORDWICH--The third meet- ing of the Star Stoppers was held at the home of Sandra Al- lan, Karen Brown read the min- utes and the next meeting was scheduled for tomorrow night (Friday) at the home of Mrs. E. Harding. Members told how they had prepared their material as roll call. The use of carbon paper and the tracing wheel was dis- cussed by Mrs, Clarkson. There was also a demonstration on the French seam and each girl made a sample. SLUMBER QUEENS BELGRAVE--The Slumber Queens heard minutes read by Diane Grummett and answered roll call with a suggestion for book improvement. The group appointed Nancy VanCamp as commentator for the exhibit on "Finishes for Garments" for the Achievement Day in January. Mary -Ellen Walsh was appointed to make the design for the book covers. The girls worked on their sam- ples. Fordwich Personals Mr. and Mrs. John Tudan and family of Toronto spent the week -end ar their home here. Elmer llarding, Carl Huth, Lyle Litt and Doug Bunker en- joyed a two»day bus trip to Tor- onto, oronto, where they toured farms at Maple and the new plaza in Toronto. This was sponsored by the Canada Packers and was both enjoyable and education- al. Mr, and Mrs, Roy Graham of Moncton, N.B., spent a week at the home of Mr, and Mrs, Ken Graham, Mrs. Winnie Downey return- ed last week to Detroit and will spend some time with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Burgan. Master Gary Douglas is spending a couple of weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Den- nis Johnston in Sarnia". Mr. Alex Keith and Mr. Roy Gadcke spent the week -end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Keith in Oakville. Mrs. Alex Keith returned home with them after spending a week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Chiomey in Port Colborne. Mas- ter Paul Chiomey is spending a couple of weeks with his grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Alba Bowman of Hagersville visited a couple of days last week at the home of Mrs. Edna Bride, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Doig and Mr. and Mrs. Wray Cooper took Mr. and Mrs. Bert Winston to London on Saturday, where they left by bus for Zepherhills, Florida, to spent the next six months. Mrs. Jack Brown and David are visiting this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Duncan, in Peterborough. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hartwig of Toronto visited Sunday with Miss Ruth Johnston. Anson Ruttan, Ken Graham, Clarence Carswell, Brian Allen, Gordon Kaster, Alex Donald- son, and Robert Hibberd of the Fordwich United Church appear- ed on Singtime Sunday night on CKNX-TV, Mr, and Mrs, Anson Ruttan and Janice visited Saturday with Mr, and Mrs. Keith Montgom- ery at Wingham. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Arm- strong, Mrs, Ruby Foster and Mr. Henry Mundt visited Sun- day with Mt. and Mrs, David Schneider in Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Klaassen and family visited Sunday with friends in Simcoe. Mrs. Tessio Zimmerman visited a couple days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Jean Andari in Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. Anson Ruttan were in Port Albert one day last week on business, Mr. George D'Arcy left last week for his home at Vancou- ver, after visiting the past two months with relatives here. Wilson of Salem and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Layburn of Bellwood spent Sun- day with Misses Louise and Let- itia Matthews, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Double - dee of Belmore, Mr. and Mrs, Bill Millar of Brussels and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Harding were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Harding.
