As in the past years, the Sil-
ver Tray was again awarded at
the Palermo Fair held in Ar-
gentina. The winner of the
Senior Get -Of Sire class was
the Cabada Las Malvinas de
Mascarenhas. This is the first
time that this firm has won the
trophy. The Palermo Show was
restricted to animals of Argen-
tine origin, as in the ease each
alternate year. Next year, when
the Sociedad Rural will cele-
brate its 75th anniversary.
competition will again be open-
ed for international exhibits.
Originally, the Canada Tro-
phy was offered only best Can-
adian -bred Holstein -Friesians
in the show, or the progeny of
such. In the past two years,
the terms have been broadened
to include Holstein -Friesian
cattle of any origin, but the
progeny of Canadian -breeds
continue to win most of them,
By centering public atten-
tion on Canadian Holstein -Frie-
sians in the Latin American
shows, the competitions have
given rise to many inquiries as
to where outstanding animals of
this breed might be purchased
in Canada. Owners and buyers
have been brought together, of-
ten resulting in a visit to Can-
ada by the latter and substan-
tial purchases of breeding stock.
The cattle are delivered by air,
speedily and comfortably, with
the result that they settle down
in their new environments in
excellent health and conditions
and are quickly brought into
production.

Candidate
Marvin Howe, Progressive
Conservative candidate in next
Monday's federal election who
has represented Wellington -
Huron for the past 12 years, .ad-
dressed a meeting in the Odd -
fellows' hall in Wingham on
Thursday evening of last week.
DeWitt Miller was chairman for
the gathering and introduced
Mr, Howe.
The candidate laid the
blame for an unwanted and un-
needed election at the door of
the Pearson administration. He
said that whether the govern-
ment was in a minority position
was not important. Getting
down to business was the main
need,
Mr. Howe said that the P.C.
party has overcome the difficul-
ties of disunity which plagued
it since the last election and is
now pulling strongly together
as a united team with a single
purpose.
Canada's present booming
economy, said the speaker, is
a direct result of actions taken
by the Progressive Conserva-
tive administration before the
Liberals were elected. He cit-
ed the fact that his party in-
herited a "complete mess"when
they took over from the Liber-
als in 1958, with vast surpluses
of agricultural products. These
were sold with great benefitsto
Canada's farmers. His party had
started the winter works pro-
gram, dealt with the national
housing problem, guaranteed
the solidity of the Canadian
dollar and worked out the basis
of the Canada labor code. The
speaker said, too, that his par-
ty has fought the administra-
Search for Farms
In Family Name
For 100 Years
The fifth meeting of the
East Wawanosh Township Cen-
tennial History Collecting Com-
mittee was held at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Wightman.
The list of crown lands is
pretty well completed, with 22
farts in the township. How-
ever, the committee is still
looking for the farms that have
been in the same families for
100 years, Records are a bit
confusing as some of the land
was bought from the Crown and
later resold, without anyone
living on the land. In some
cases people lived on the prop-
erties before the crown deeds
were registered.
A short film has been made
on the work the committee has
done in regard to gathering
facts and interesting material
on the township's history. It
will be shown on "The World
Around Us" on CFPL-TV, Lon-
don, November 29 at 10.30
p.m.
After the meeting Mr. Wight -
man showed colored slides of
the central part of East Wawan-
osh, showing the Maitland Riv-
er and the trees in full autumn
color. These slides were aerial
pictures which Mr. Wightman
had taken from a small aircraft.
Negotating for
!Renfrew Dairy
Peter Cutter, former man-
ager of the local U.D.P.C,
plant who resigned his position
with the firm on October 15,
has been negotiating to pur-
chase the Centreside Douglas
Dairy in Renfrew.
The firm has a good dairy
trade in the community and is
also making nearly 1,000,000
lbs, of butter annually, as well
as having a powdered milk and
ice cream division.
Mr. Cutter said that he has
an option on the business which
is open until the first of De-
cember.
"How is it your children are
so well behaved compared with
those Indians of mine?" a fami
woman asked. "Why, my kids
are always running around with
their shirt tails sticking but.
Your kids always keep their
shirts inside their pants. What
dd you do to keep thetn so tidy?"
"Oh, it's simple. On the
end of each shirt I put a nice
piece of Iace edging."
Addresses Wingham
ment will be to call a nation-
wide conference on the urgent
and disturbing matter of Can-
adian unity; He promised that
his party would reduce personal
income tax for home owners by
$500 per year. Education and
the broader application of cout-
tion on the issue of the 11%
sales tax which has been int.,
posed on such a broad section
of Canadian business,
Outlining the planks in the
Progressive Conservative plat-
form Mr. Howe said that one of

concern to the Progressive Con-
servative party, said Mr, Howe,
