McLaughlin initiated Mrs. Tom
Russell at last Wednesday's
meeting of the ladies' Auxiliary
to the Royal Canadian Legion.
An application for membership
from Mrs. George Anger was
read and accepted.
Mrs. Percy Deyell won the
membership draw. It was re-
ported that the bowling team
won fifth at Owen Sound and
that three teams would go to the
Exeter tournament scheduled for
last night.
Donations were made to the
British Sailors' Society and the
CNIB.
Members were asked to be at
the Legion Home at 10:45 a.m.
on Sunday, November 'i for
church parade to Sacred Heart;
at the armouries at 10:15 on
November 11 to parade to the
cenotaph, and at St. Paul's
Church the same evening at
seven for the Remembrance Day
banquet.
Plans were made for the tea
at the town hall on November
6. Mrs. Jack Gorrie read an es-
say on Remembrance Day,
which had been written by a 15 -
year -old girl and had won first
prize in a contest.
Friendship Unit
Holds Meeting
WROXETER—The Friendship
Unit of the United Church Wo-
men held its regular monthly
meeting at the home of Mrs.
James Sanderson last Wednes-
day, with eleven members pre-
sent. Mrs. H. Wylie occupied
the chair for the devotional part
of the meeting and was assisted
by Mrs. L. Munro who read the
Scripture lesson and led in
prayer, and by Mrs. Sanderson
who began an interesting study
on Trinidad.
' Mrs. Miller, the president,
was in charge of the business.
Mrs. K. Edgar, Mrs. Sanderson
and Mrs. Miller brought back
to the members a detailed re-
port from the regional meeting
of the Presbyterial of North Hur-
on held in Fordwich.

the ceremony. Ralph Peters
was organist and David Havery
sang The Lord's Prayer, Wed-
ding Prayer and Wedding Hymn.
The bride was given in mar-
riage by her father. She wore a
dress of Allenby peau de soie
with sleeves and hemline trim-
med with re -embroidered Alen -
con lace. The controlled A-
line skirt fell smoothly from her
empire waist and back interest
was created by a chapel train.
The simplicity of the line was
accentuated by a tall Camelot
headpiece with bouffant veil
falling from the centre. She
carried a bouquet of gardenias
and ivy.

wore identical gowns and car-
ried the same flowers as the
maid of honor.
Jane Thompson of Belgrave,
flower girl, wore a long dress
of spruce green peau de soie
trimmed with matching silk vel-
vet
elvet and a matching rosette
headpiece. She carried a bas-
ket of Talisman roses, orange
carnation petals and bronze
mums.
Best man was Bob McCor-
mack, brother of the groom, of
Montreal and ushers were Cam-
eron Robinson of Belgrave,
Ewald Rainer and John Snyder
of Toronto. Master Murray
Thompson of Belgrave was ring
bearer.
A central fountain decorat- ,
ed the Cavalier Room at the
Ports of Call for the reception
and dance which followed. The
bride's mother received the
guests wearing a Dior blue dress
trimmed with matching appli-
que lace and carried an evening
bag with two pink cymbidium
orchids. The groom's aunt as-
sisted. She chose a Paris pink
sheath with a corsage of deep
pink roses and carnation petals.
The young couple left on a
trip to the Laurentians, Quebec
City, Montreal and Ottawa. For
travelling the bride wore a rose
tailored A-line dress suit with
matching accessories.
They will live in Los Ange-
les, California.
Choir Competes
In Festival
Miss Claire Chamney of Tor-
onto,
oronto, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Chamney of Belgrave,
was in Boston from Thursday to
Sunday of last week as a mem-
ber of the Mendelssohn Choir
which is participating in the In-
tetnational Choral Festival as
Canada's representative to this
event. The festival is being
held to celebrate the 150th an-
niversary of the Mandel and
llayden Society of Boston.
Choirs from all over the
world are taking part with the
Mendelssohn Choir,doing a
concert of mainly Canadian

Married 15 Years
A very happy gathering was
held at the home of Mrs. May
Richardson and Wallace, Bel-
more on Saturday evening, in
honor of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
Holmes of Wingham, on the oc-
casion of their 25th wedding an-
niversary.
A turkey dinner was served
to 16 guests. A three -tiered
wedding cake, fully decorated,
was provided by the bride of
25 years ago.
Those attending were Mrs.
McCullough of Qu' Appelle,
Sask., Mr. and Mrs. Clifford
Young, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley
Young, Mrs. Jessie Grant of
Teeswater and Miss Nora Grant
of London, Mr. and Mrs. Rich-
ard Irwin, Kitchener, Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Stokes, Wrox-
eter and friends from Wingham.
During the evening Mr. and
Mrs. Holmes were presented
with several lovely and useful
gifts.
Short Course
Well Attended
LAKELET--Twenty-four la-
dies attended the first of two
meetings of the short course
"Vegetables with a Flair" last
Thursday evening at the home
of the local leader, Mrs. Lyle
Murray. The assistant leader
is Mrs. Lloyd Jacques.
This course is arranged by
the Ontario Department of Ag-
riculture and is sponsored here
by the Lakelet Women's Insti-
tute.
Friends Hold
Surprise Party
BLUEVALE—On Friday eve-
ning of last week the neighbors
of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wheeler;
the former Mrs. Pearl Husband,
gathered at their home on High-
way 86 for a surprise party in
honor of their recent marriage.
Progressive euchre was play-
ed with high score held by Mrs.
Harvey Robertson and Carl Frei -
burger and low score by Mrs.
Freiburger and Lloyd Robertson,
Refreshments of sandwiches
and tarts were served and Ross
Gray, in a few well chosen
words, extended best wishes
and welcomed Mrs. Wheeler to
the community. They were
presented with a plate glass
mirror by Mrs, Gray and Mrs.
Robertson. Both Mr. and Mrs.
Wheeler made suitable replies.
A most enjoyable evening was
spent.
