Mrs. Burns Moffatt read the
scripture, followed by prayer
by Mrs. Bernard Thomas. Mrs.
Sadie Johnston of Lucknow gave
a very interesting reading,
"Count Your Blessings". The
roll call was answered by 17
ladies with a thought about For-
mosa
ormosa or an item of interest
concerning the guest speaker.
Mrs, R. J. McMurray intro-
duced the speaker, Miss Doug-
las of Lucknow, a recently re-
turned missionary from Formosa.
Miss Douglas first went to the
island 37 years ago and has
seen vast changes and improve-
ments. Her chief work has been
teaching in a high school where
1400 students are enrolled. Ac-
tivities were curtailed or stag-
gered because of crowded con-
ditions but with sacrifice, work
and prayer, they have a school
nearly completed to accommo-
date the activities all at one
time. Religious instruction is
given in this school and the
chapel is always filled for ser-
vices although they are not
compelled to attend.
Miss Douglas took keen in-
terest in women's work and al-
ways tried to attend their meet-
ings, giving helpful suggestions
and leadership.
Formosa this year celebrat-
ed 100 years of Christian Wit-
ness and it certainly was a high-
light for the Christian people of
Formosa. Miss Douglas asked
for prayers for missionaries and
the Formosa teachers and pas-
tors who are laboring so faith-
fully to spread the gospel.
Mrs. Keith Moffatt thanked
the guest and gave her a small
token of appreciation.
Mrs. W. Willits, of the
United Church rendered a beau-
tiful solo, accompanied by
Mrs. G. Mitchell.
A social half hour was en-
joyed over a cup of tea.
